Position: Direct Support Professional

Stable Living is a day program for adults with developmental disabilities. Our goal is to provide a purpose for each individual. We accomplish this by providing tools that assist our consumers in their understating of the world they live in and how to best respond to the situations they encounter. We develop and provide communication tools for each other, their family, their friends, and anyone they might meet in the future. Our mission is to empower our consumers to be safely and successfully independent.

We aim to accomplish these by using positive reinforcements, examples, and encounters. We set parameters and expectations. We use praise and consequences for choices and decisions. We attempt to duplicate expectations and procedures that our consumers might experience in their living situations.

Job description

Your first 30 days are a probationary period. We will use this time to observe your work ethic, skills, promptness, communication, and cohesion to the program. This also gives you an opportunity to observe Stable Living and discover what you can bring to enhance the program in any way. We want you to feel comfortable with your designated tasks, responsibilities, consumers, and co-workers. If during the 30 days, we decide you are not a good fit or you decide this is not for you then a permanent position will not be offered.

Your job is to work hands on and side by side with the consumers in order that they might achieve their own goals and that of the program’s. You are directly supporting them with the use of prompts, examples, expectations, responsibilities, decision making, and expanding their abilities.

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is expected to

• Work at least 5 days a week Monday through Friday (occasionally Saturdays and Sundays during special events). There are 3 available shifts: 8-2:30, 9-3:30, or 8-4.

We will work with you to determine a fitting schedule. Special Events include:

Stanislaus County Fair, Los Banos Spring Fair, Farmers Markets, Newman Fall

Festival, Turlock Christmas Tree Lighting Festival, and miscellaneous craft shows.

• Teach by doing

• Assist in developing communication skills

• Assist in developing and teaching living skills

• Teach and display a work before play mentality

• Teach them to respect each other and themselves

• DSP’s are required to participant in on-going training either by the regional centers or by Stable Living.

• Be organized and efficient

• Understand the program design and policies

• Understand the governing codes

• Keep accurate and complete records (log books, COB’s, SIR’s, project sheets, activity sheets)

• Know emergency contact info about the consumers you are supporting

Other requirements for employees

• Working vehicle with 4 or more seats

• Auto Insurance

• Must be 21 years or older to work here

• Background check*

• Driving record (H6)*

• TB test*

• CPR and first aid**

*Stable Living will provide the vendor for these; the expense will be on the employee. If at the end of the 30 days we hire you permanently, you will be reimbursed.

**If you do not have this certification, Stable Living will offer the course through local agencies after the 30 days.

Additional Information

We have two locations, Turlock and Newman, employees will be trained at both locations.

Starting pay is $15.00 an hour

Mileage pay is $1.00 / mile when providing transportation with personal vehicle for consumers for program related activities and events.
