- General Summary:
Under limited direction, the Device Clinical Specialist facilitates the efficient daily operations of the cardiology device clinic. Coordinates patient scheduling, performs device checks, and reprograms devices as needed based on physician developed protocols. Assess patient and staff cardiology device educational needs in order to develop and implements adequate education programs. In collaboration with physicians and other team members, the Device Clinical Specialist assist with the plan of care to ensure the best patient care experience for every patient and their significant others
Requirements:
- Registered Nurse with current licensure in state of Michigan or bachelor’s degree with Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) accreditation. CCDS completion is preferred upon hire or required within 12 months
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. If hired after 8/1/2012 you will need to pursue and complete your BSN within 5 years from your date of hire.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) provider—required.
- ACLS procured within 6 months of hire date.
- Three (3) years of clinical experience in cardiology preferred.
- Prior experience in a device clinic is strongly preferred.
- Able to correctly identify and analyze arrhythmias.
- In depth knowledge of device technology, principles, and methods and proven ability to perform device checks and reprogramming.
- HRS certification is preferred upon hire or required to complete within 18 months of hire.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making within established policies and procedures.
- Ability and discretion in analyzing data and adequately reporting results.
- Ability to work effectively as member of health care team.
- Possess interpersonal skills necessary to interact with people.
- Ability to organize and interpret data, and accurately communicate with physicians, nurses, other staff and patients.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Performs routine and complex patient device checks and reprograms devices as needed per physician developed protocols and evidence-based practice.
- Oversees the daily review of home monitoring websites and follows up on routine and potential urgent device issues.
- Follows physician developed protocols for scheduling cardiology device appointments and assists with the appointment as directed by the attending physician.
- Assesses the educational needs for patients and their significant others and develops an education plan to address individual need and effectively communicate plans the patient and their family.
- Collaborates with the physician in the assessment of the device status to identify and appropriately document how it affects the total treatment plan and patient care.
- Assists with the development of pre- and post- implantation patient care treatment plans to ensure nursing care plans are fully implemented and patient needs are adequately addressed.
- Acts as the subject matter expert providing device guidance and education to all cardiology office staff.
- Documents concise, accurate and timely information in the patient care record in accordance with established policies, procedures and applicable laws and regulations that govern them.
- Serve as the direct contact for device vendors and assists with implantations, maintenance and problem solving of device related issues.
- Maintain updated competency of device and cardiology knowledge and use standards of care in professional practice
- Performs other duties as assigned. These may including but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of use standards of care in professional practice, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
