Role Overview
NationSwell is seeking a Designer to join the NationSwell Studio team to help create partner brand and campaign collateral design. This person will report to the Managing Director and will serve as the lead production designer for the NationSwell Studio. Qualified candidates will have a strong portfolio of visual design experience including (but not limited to) brand identity, layout, typography, web design, motion graphic content, and illustration.

As Designer, you will help design campaigns, brand identities, content and advertising campaigns, and event experiences for Studio clients, and help to shape NationSwell branded initiatives and the identity of the NationSwell visual brand.
Your work should be curious, inclusive, and brave — striving for relevance, excellence and distinctiveness. You have a passion for design storytelling and know how to harness design to solve the complex problems that affect the human experience. You understand that great creative work requires great strategy and you always have rationales for your decisions. You have a passion for working in mission-driven fields, and you have an entrepreneurial spirit.
The annual salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000.
What will you do?

  • Work with many different facets of design including (but not limited to) digital/social, brand identity systems, typography, web design, motion graphics, photography, illustration
  • Use a variety of tools and techniques to create designs that not only look great, but are executed in meaningful ways to deliver quantifiable results
  • Design across a variety of styles/looks, as defined by the goals and guidelines of our clients and initiatives
  • Demonstrate an exceptional eye for layout, composition and UI
  • Work proficiently with design and prototyping tools and methods (e.g, Adobe CC, Sketch, Figma, etc.)
  • Help extract design needs from a wide variety of stakeholders, both internally and externally, in order to clearly define the deliverables, goals/objectives, milestones and successful outcomes of any given project
  • Conduct relevant research to guide the rationale behind your design decisions throughout the creative process
  • Experience in video production desirable but not required
  • Inspire your NationSwell teammates from other (non-Creative) disciplines, setting and maintaining the industry standards of creativity from concept to execution

What are you like?

  • Have a strong understanding of composition, color theory, typography, design history, and information architecture
  • Have a track record as a well-liked design leader for projects/campaigns that include design systems, audience experiences, and products that delight audiences/users and achieve business results
  • You don’t have a singular look to your work - you’re happiest as a shape-shifter who can create a unique design solution for client/project
  • Adept at guiding internal and external teams using rationales and persuasion, rather than inflexibility and impatience
  • Prioritize high teammate and client satisfaction with your design work and process
  • Display the consistent ability to clearly express yourself and have a strategic rationale for your creative ideas — including having the confidence to present your work in a clear and inspiring way to internal teams and client partners
  • Enjoy monitoring the latest design trends from around the world in order to bring fresh inspiration to the creative team (and our wider teams) on a daily/weekly basis
  • You have a “What’s the note behind the note?” approach to feedback. You know that every note - whether or not you make the change - is valuable because it provides information
  • When you give feedback, you offer solutions, rather than merely identify a problem
  • A self starter who takes initiative and is not fearful of ambiguity — offer creative ideas that the team and partners can respond to
  • Excellent organizational skills — able to effectively manage deadlines, thinking 5 steps ahead, and prioritizing work
  • Embraces collaboration and idea sharing, open to feedback from all disciplines — enjoys working with a small, in-house team paired with a roster of freelance specialists
  • Nice to have: experience or interest in inclusive and purpose driven design
