Overview:
We are seeking a creative and motivated Designer to join the HarperCollins Adult Trade Design Department reporting out of the Princeton, NJ office. In this role, the Designer will be responsible for designing book interiors; creating offsets; composing cover mechnicals in both English and Spanish languages, and audio packaging. This position will report into the Associate Director, Design; as well as play a supporting role to the cover Art Director.
Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Design, Cover Art, Editorial, and Production teams
  • Provide design support to supervisor and to senior staff on various projects
  • Design book interiors and all components such as photo inserts and endpapers; make corrections; create print-ready pdfs; preflighting and releasing file to the printer
  • Provide design support to Cover Art Director—Execute mechanicals of covers and jackets for print books and audio packaging, plus revisions
  • Learn all aspects of print production
  • Keep projects on budget and schedule
  • Timely archival of assets
  • Strong organizational skills a must.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1– 2 years of design experience
  • College degree or equivalent work experience in Graphic Design and Typography
  • Strong Mac skills and design skills using InDesign; strong Photoshop and Illustrator skills a plus
  • Interior and Cover book design experience a plus
  • Basic understanding of production process, and meeting deadlines a plus
  • Pre-press experience a plus
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to set priorities under pressure
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting
