About the Opportunity
Summary
The School of Architecture in the College of Arts, Media and Design invites applications for a newly launched Design Research and Teaching Fellow role to expand the vibrant teaching and design-research initiatives of the School. We seek candidates who will advance design research by presenting and exhibiting their research findings and leading classes focused in the Fellow’s specific area of design, research, professional practice, and/or analysis of the built environment. Fellows will have the opportunity to engage and collaborate with all faculty of the School of Architecture and across the College of Arts, Media and Design (Art & Design, Music, Journalism, Communications, Theater), as well as with faculty across the University.
Responsibilities
This position is a one-year fellowship for emerging design practitioners and researchers. The role will entail teaching three courses in total over the course of the academic year. One of these courses will be a year-long graduate research and design studio centered on the Fellow’s research focus. Another course will be either a core design studio or seminar, wherein the Fellow’s unique focus on the built environment could be brought to bear on such aspects of the core curriculum as urban housing, sustainable urban design, building sciences and technology, material experimentation, or landscape systems. The Fellow will be invited to deliver a lecture as part of the annual lecture series in the School and/or prepare an exhibition of design research with an additional stipend from the School to support the exhibition installation.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a terminal degree in the proposed focus areas of the candidate’s research and anticipated teaching area (typically PhD's for Architectural and Landscape Architecture historians, or Masters degrees for design, professional practice, and building technology faculty) by appointment start date.
Additional Information
Candidates are required to submit a CV, cover letter, portfolio of creative works and design research, and a one-page (maximum) project proposal for a year-long research project, including an outline for a year-long Masters Research/Design studio.
