POSITION OVERVIEW

The Deputy Chief, Education and Youth Programs position exists to articulate and implement MT’s strategic vision by serving as an executive of the organization, overseeing our existing portfolio of Education and Youth programs, leading the design and development of new programs, and evaluating the effectiveness of programs against the mission and vision of Martha’s Table.


POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves on the organization’s Senior Team and works closely with other Senior Team members to establish organizational priorities and to advance the mission and vision of Martha’s Table (MT).
  • Directly supervises MT’s Education Program Directors, Recruitment & Enrollment Coordinator, and Youth Development Coordinator.
  • Leads, coaches, develops, and retains MT’s high-performance Education program leadership team, and works closely with them to build their skills and confidence so they can mentor, encourage, and motivate team members. Provides assistance and guidance on how to troubleshoot program and team member performance challenges.
  • Provides mentoring, guidance, supervision, and professional development to program team members.
  • Builds and manages program teams based on organizational goals, budget considerations, and staffing needs. Works with HR to ensure that team members are appropriately recruited, selected, onboarded, supported, and appraised; takes action to address performance problems.
  • Establishes annual program, departmental, and team member goals and objectives and tracks results against the strategic goals of the organization.
  • Understands organizational financial processes and leads programs in the development of annual program budgets that are aligned to strategic goals.
  • Monitors expenditures and uses cost-benefit thinking to set priorities.
  • Leads aspects of MT’s place-based approach and strategic plan, including the application of critical frameworks that drive the development of programmatic strategies and ensure such efforts add up to and are sufficient for advancing the organization toward its 20-year impact goal.
  • Facilitates the design, coordination, integration and delivery of programs and related services, promoting collaborative relationships across program areas and ensuring that the expectations of families, donors, community members and other stakeholders are consistently met.
  • Ensures effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the Board, funders, and other constituents.
  • Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.
  • Identifies and establishes cross-cutting strategic relationships and partnerships (government, financial, community, etc.) that advance the long-term goals of our place-based work.
  • Directly manages a portfolio and key relationships with priority partners and key organizational donors.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.
  • Strong relationship builder with the ability to find common ground, build consensus, and strengthen collaboration among teams and team members.
  • Strong community awareness and understanding with a demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, inclusiveness, and empowerment.
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.
  • Ability to lead and manage in ambiguity, and with compassion and passion articulate the mission, vision, and core values of the organization.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Graduate degree (preferred) and 4 years of executive level experience.
