Our Health Center Locations: Brick, Freehold, Lakewood, Little Egg Harbor, Manahawkin, Manchester and Toms River; with our school-based Wellness Programs located within the Clifton Ave Grade School, Lakewood; and Lakewood High School.

OHI services include family and internal medicine, pediatrics, behavioral health, nutrition, OB/GYN women’s health, dental, family planning, specialty care, pharmacies, PrEP, and a STI clinic.

The responsibilities of the Dental Hygienist position are for all of OHI’s Dental locations; with schedule and assignment dependent with the needs of the organization.


Position Summary:

Performs professional dental care in the field of dental hygiene, including all related clinical procedures. Has broad responsibilities for clinical and community dental health education activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Works under the general supervision of the dentist.
  • Clean calcareous deposits, accretions and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums, using appropriate dental instruments.
  • Feel and visually examine gums for sores and signs of disease.
  • Chart conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist via EMR system.
  • Feel lymph nodes under patient’s chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer.
  • Apply fluorides and other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay.
  • Examine gums, using probes, to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease.
  • Exposes and electronically processes digital images and evaluates images for diagnostic quality in accordance with state regulations and laws as well as Dental Department directives and protocols.
  • Provide clinical services and health education to improve and maintain oral health of school children.
  • Follows up with insurance companies for necessary authorizations.
  • Supra and sub gingival scaling and curettage.
  • Conduct dental health clinics for community groups to augment services of dentist.
  • Instruction for proper home care techniques for oral hygiene including proper tooth brushing, flossing, nutrition and need for professional care.
  • Screen and evaluate patients regarding cavities detection, periodontal pathology and medical history.
  • Primarily responsible for the initiation and maintenance of the dental prevention and dental education component of the dental department.
  • Assists in the training of dental assistants and externs.
  • Works collaboratively with all members of the Senior Management and Management Teams to resolve departmental and organizational challenges expeditiously, economically, professionally and with minimum disruption to the practice
  • Completes all mandatory in-services in a timely fashion and attends all required meetings.
  • Adheres to Corporate Compliance policies.
  • Is highly accountable for one's own productivity. In order to maintain transparency, all projects must be represented clearly on a project board in Monday.com. Responsible for ensuring the board is always updated and accurate and that information is accessible to those that need it.
  • Maintains a passing monthly scorecard metric of 80%.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Licensure:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of dental hygiene is required.
  • Active State of New Jersey Hygienist license is required.
  • Active New Jersey Radiological license is required.
  • Active BLS certificate through the American Heart Association is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 is required.
