Join us as one of our Day Camp Instructors for our dynamic Arts Discovery Day Camp program at Interlochen Center for the Arts. The day camp will offer weekly arts integrated programming, Monday through Friday, from 9am-4pm. The Day Camp Instructors are responsible for leading activities and instruction throughout the day. The Instructors will have the group support of Day Camp Counselors for group management and activity preparation. The dates of employment would be 6/15/23-8/4/23 with variable hours between 7am-6pm, Monday - Friday. This is a paid position and includes housing and meals, provided you live at least 40 miles from campus.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead a group of ~10-12 campers through arts activities, support their time on main campus, and foster a caring environment for them
  • Support main campus instructors in their activities as needed
  • Be an active leader and model appropriate behavior at all times.
  • Responsible for taking on bus shifts before and after the camp day, as needed
  • Be a team member in taking care of our space and encouraging campers to also keep our space orderly, clean, and welcoming
  • Apply creative thinking related to student interactions and execution of student activities
  • Lead dynamic arts integrated activities following weekly themes and encourage artistic discovery.
  • Organize supplies, keep materials in good condition
  • Build strong relationships with campers and creating positive group dynamics

Experience and Skills:

  • Must enjoy working with children in grades 1st - 6th
  • Must have experience working with children in a classroom or camp setting; elementary teachers are encouraged to apply
  • An artistic background and experience is a plus
  • Experience with outdoor or environmental education is a plus
  • Must have the ability to effectively engage in appropriate communication (verbal and non-verbal) with students, staff, and parents
  • Willing and able to assist with facility preparations and maintaining a clean environment for the students
  • Willing to perform your duties both inside and outside, rain or shine
  • Committed to the inclusion and acceptance of others
  • Able to think on your feet and manage emergent situations should they arise
