Position Title: Database Architect
Location: Remote
Reports to: Engagement Specialist
Hours per week (average): 40
Overtime Status: Exempt
Galvanize USA is looking for a Database Architect to oversee our data systems and tools, and to integrate data-driven practices in support of the Galvanize USA Community Program (GalvanizeTogether.org) and the organization broadly. This position reports to the Engagement Specialist and works closely with the Senior Director of Digital Campaigns and the Research team to ensure a quality and rigorous data story.
Initial projects, which are illustrative of the types of things the Database Architect would take on, might include 1) overseeing Civis and Redshift on Amazon Web Servers in support of Community Program strategy, 2) collaborating with our Program Evaluation Manager to build automated and real-time reports and dashboards using Periscope and Google Data Studio; 3) working with our CRM associate to think through how key relationships data could be stored and utilized in EveryAction under the guidance of the Engagement Specialist; and 4) produce and managing APIs across EveryAction, Mobile Commons and Second Street vendors. This type of variety in projects requires a rigorous data advocate, self-starter who is eager to tackle a wide range of projects with curiosity and initiative.

Responsibilities and Tasks
- Oversee Galvanize USA’s programmatic databases (Civis and Redshift on AWS) to maintain accurate and comprehensive data, and to optimize their usage in support of the Community Program and Research
- Work closely with Data & Operations Associate to ensure smooth integrations and consistent data standards between relational databases and CRM (EveryAction/NGPVAN)
- Develop and manage all technology documentation as it relates to our data and databases
- Create and run reports for all aspects of campaigns and other Community program data
- Generate and distribute custom dashboards, visualizations, and other real-time analysis tools using Periscope and Google Data Studio
- Assist with the development of new systems and processes as needed
- Inform data sharing agreements with affiliated entities
- Schedule and implement regular data hygiene processes
- Serve as the primary database administrator
- Serve as the co-liaison with The Movement Cooperative and all other data infrastructure vendors and services
- All employees of Hopewell Fund are required to complete timesheets
- Perform other duties as needed
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- 3-5 years previous data management experience with a political and/or organizing lens
- Demonstrated abilities to effectively project manage & work both independently and with a team
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and training
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Python, EveryAction/VAN, action management software, Google Sheets, and Excel required
- Experience in Civis Platform and writing complex queries using SQL
- API integration experience to support multiple platforms and data flows
- Experience in creating reports in Periscope or other software like Tableau or Google Data Studio
- Can work well in a remote team and is able to manage and collaborate with staff at all levels and consultants
- Is a self-starter and detail-oriented
- Likes finding elegant solutions to complicated problems
- Can translate database and data infrastructure concepts to non-technical staff
- Can manage several tasks/projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively
- Commitment to understanding race, class, gender, and other equity issues as part of your work as well as the impact these structural issues have on our collective work environment
- Occasional travel (dependent on COVID-19)
Valued and Non-Essential Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability
- Proficiency in mobile messaging platforms, G Suite, Slack, Asana, and similar technology is ideal. The ability to independently become an expert in these and similar software is critical.
- Knowledge of 501c3 and 501c4 compliance requirements
Compensation & Benefits
The starting salary range for this position is $75,000-90,000, depending on experience.
