Job Summary
Under general supervision, the Data Specialist will play a critical role in the Data Governance Organization (DGO) at Interstate Batteries as a master data specialist on the Master Data Governance (MDG) team. Their primary responsibility will be to ensure that Interstate Batteries’ master data is setup and updated in a timely manner and that the data adheres to the high data standards established and governed by the core MDG team and the DGO. They will do this as a final approver of master data change requests.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serves as a final approver of a critical master data domain.
  • Responsible for reviewing, rejecting or approving master data change requests to ensure high quality, accurate data.
  • Have a high-level understanding of the data related business processes to create and maintain the master data in your domain.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the prerequisites and downstream process that occur within the business to create and consume master data.
  • Helps drive positive MDG performance metrics including KPI's, productivity and quality metrics to ensure SLAs are met and data is accurate.
  • Enforces high data quality standards and implements best practices.
  • Partners with the Internal Audit team to ensure checks and balances are in place and adhered to and to make sure that confidential data is safe and secure.
  • Researches and recommends solutions to help resolve data related issues as part of the escalation process through the DGO.
  • Recommends new data standards, business rules, processes, forms, and corrections.
  • Proactively looks for process improvement opportunities and help drive to completion.
  • Support MDG initiatives and participates in MDG projects.
  • Supports and collaborates with the business on data analytics and reporting requirements.
  • Creates and maintains process documentation, training materials, and the data dictionary.
  • Supports, attends, and actively participates in DGO and MDG meetings.
  • Monitors integrations/replications of data between SAP and legacy systems and troubleshoots issues.
  • Actively promotes and enforces master data best practices.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of master data governance experience required such as data governance, data management, data quality, data stewardship, data systems and processes, etc.
  • Experience with SAP, Snowflake, Tableau and Alteryx are desirable
  • At least one data governance certification is a plus
    • Data Governance and Stewardship Professional (DGSP)
    • Master Data Management (MDM)
    • Certified in Data Protection (CDP)
    • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)
    • Certified Information Management Professional (CIMP)
    • Master Data Management Administrator
    • Master Data Management Developer
  • Extremely detail-oriented and thorough

  • Light/minimal travel required
Scope Data
  • Works within a larger group of requestors and approvers
  • Role will be a part of a 5-10 person MDG team
  • MDG customers include requestors from the business, distributors, customers and suppliers
Work Environment
  • Hybrid work environment – remote with some onsite attendance preferred.
  • Ability to sustain posture in a seated position for prolonged periods of time.
  • Regularly required to use hands to grasp or handle, talk and hear, stand and walk.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move 20+ lbs.
  • Prolonged use of personal computer & telephone.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
