Job description
Under general supervision, responsible for solving moderately complex business cases by creating data driven models to support identified problem statements and workable hypotheses. Conducts data discovery and analyses, develops moderately complex models by utilizing statistical, algorithmic and visualization techniques and provides insights for cross-functional teams within Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) and its subsidiaries.
- Support the successful design, development, and implementation of advanced analytics through exploratory data analysis and various algorithm development.
- Analyze internal data from disparate sources to support modeling efforts and hypothesis testing.
- Perform data querying and manipulation of structured and unstructured data sets, including large data sets using the appropriate big data technologies.
- Document and communicate opportunities for improvement identified in the data, such as scalability or quality concerns.
- Identify and analyze data patterns that generates insights for decisions that will optimize business objectives.
- Produce statistical analyses, statistical learning models and data visualizations.
- Package recommended insights and proposed solution outputs to direct team members to ensure models are well understood.
- Work on concurrent projects of varying size and scope, adhering to timelines and objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research or related field is required. Master’s degree or PHD in related field is preferred.
- A minimum of one (1) year of related work experience is preferred.
- Previous experience programming (at least one language) is required.
- Previous experience working in the healthcare industry is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of big data (i.e. Map/Reduce, YARN, HDFS, etc.), query building (i.e. PL/SQL, HIVE, Impala, Spark, etc.), programming (i.e. R, Python, C, Java, Ruby, etc.) and visualization tools (i.e. QlikView, Tableau, Web FOCUS, etc.).
- Basic statistical modeling skills (i.e. regression, logistic regression, decision trees, random forests, etc.)
- Basic statistical testing techniques (i.e. ANOVA t-tests, etc.)
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Access, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively interface and present to management at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
