The Customer Representative (Technical) is a member of the Commercial Department and reports to the CTS manager and GM of Sales. The Representative is responsible for investigating and resolving claims by customers to maintain good customer relations while minimizing the Company’s costs. Will provides technical expertise to promote the Company’s products and expand its customer base. This involves collaborating with other members of the Commercial group and regularly communicating with customers and traveling to customer sites.

Essential Functions

• Administer the Company’s claim policy while minimizing impact on the company.
• Resolve customer technical issues and communicate any corrective action or process changes to Operations/Quality Assurance departments.
• Communicate with customers to meet current needs and generate additional sales, including in person communication during visits to client sites.
• Provide metallurgical expertise to promote Company’s products and respond to customer needs.
• Provide technical exchanges/development training for customers and company personnel including tours of the facility.
• Enter timely price card requests and resolve all pricing and invoice related discrepancies as soon as possible as well as collaborate with the Sales Manager to negotiate monthly/spot/contract pricing.
• Review all orders to ensure they are properly fulfilled and closed. Collaborate with Inside Sales Representatives to prepare monthly shipping forecasts for assigned customer base.
• Collaborate with the Marketing Department to recognize and promote sales opportunities, for example, gather market intelligence and competitor pricing information.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or similar degree.
• In lieu of engineering degree at least two years of experience in technical/sales, production operations or quality in the steel industry.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate technical and non-technical information effectively to all levels of the organization.
• Ability to prioritize work and handle non-routine problems and situations with minimal supervision.
• Professional interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to negotiate comfortably.
• Must be able to analyze process and synthesize data effectively.

Travel

• This position typically requires about 25% travel (local and some overnight stays).

Work Environment

• This position is conducted in an office environment (approximately two-thirds of the time) and in manufacturing environments (approximately one-third of the time). Driving a vehicle to, and from, customer’s plants is required.

Physical Demands

• This position involves a combination of sedentary and light work and the ability to walk in the manufacturing environment while carrying up to 50 pounds.
• Climbing, stooping, kneeling, sitting, balancing, and crouching are required.
• One must be able to bend over bundles of plate to obtain samples and go through bundles, if necessary, which involves some lifting and bending.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
• Additional demands include driving and air travel.
