Job description
Position Summary
Seeking an experienced design engineer responsible for the design and development of shop drawings for both commercial and residential projects. Duties include interpreting architectural drawings and transform them into production drawings that will be submitted for approval and used for installation. This position is also responsible for nesting components as well as ordering parts and materials as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Providing production support to the machining area and the assembly area
- Work with Designers and Project Managers throughout the design and nesting process.
- Analyzing architectural drawings, specifications, and related data and documents to determine design factors such as size, shape, and arrangement of parts and overall scope of project.
- Create shop drawings and submittals that address the construction method to be used in production (joining method, angles, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, and location of holes) and are compliant with company standards and installation limitations.
- Reviewing product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications
- Directing integration of technical activities and products
- Evaluating and approving design changes, specifications, and drawing releases
- Controlling expenditures within limitations of project budget
- Measuring machine and parts during production to ensure compliance with design specifications
- Using computer-assisted design/drafting software to generate parts, assemblies, and technical drawings
- Prepares all project files for nested based manufacturing process.
- Handle the sourcing and procurement of all materials required for the project.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to read architectural drawings.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of the two
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and proportions to practical situations
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Experience in commercial or residential cabinetry a plus.
