JOB SUMMARY:

The Critical Access Hospital - Chief Nursing Officer (CAH-CNO) serves as the nursing leader for Ephraim McDowell Health (EMH) critical access hospitals, Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital (EMJBH) and Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital (EMFLH). The CNO-CAH reports directly to the EMH System CNO with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Vice President of Clinical Effectiveness/EMFLH. The CAH-CNO ensures the continuous and timely availability of nursing services. The nurse executive also ensures the quality of nursing standards of care and practice by incorporating current nursing research findings, nationally recognized professional standards, and other literature into the policies and procedures governing the provision of nursing care, treatment and services.

Directs the nursing practice of professionals and support personnel in accordance with standards of practice as defined by the Kentucky Board of Nursing and in accordance with the Ephraim McDowell Health nursing professional practice model. Performance that accomplishes patient and family centered care as central to practice and a foundation of caring, compassion, competence, communication, collaboration and teamwork. Responsible in promoting shared nursing leadership to accomplish positive outcomes, education, respect, dignity and safety for the patient and their family. Accountable for leadership of self and others.

The Chief Nursing Officer is administratively responsible 24/7 for the nursing units at EMJBH and EMFLH and EMH system responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day operations of these areas as they relate to the Organization’s mission, legacy, values, policy/procedures, and budget. Participates in Organization-wide Administrative On-Call. Exhibits the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).
