CRISIS NAVIGATOR / SUPPORTIVE MENTOR

COUNTY: Kitsap County, WA
REGION: North Kitsap including Poulsbo, Kingston, & Bainbridge Island
STATUS Full Time (40-hrs/week)
HOURLY RATE $19-$21

REPORTS TO Manager of Crisis Services

Summary: This position collaborates with Coffee Oasis programming, first responders, schools, hospitals, and other youth-oriented agencies to provide referral and transition services to clients needing a higher or different level of care. May provide practical training and guidance to staff and/or other agencies as required. Provides care to clients in a manner that recognizes the human potential, is empathic and demonstrates unconditional positive regard while promoting safety, comfort, and advocacy.

Possess and provides knowledge of community referral processes and requirements for a variety of local area resources (i.e., food banks, shelters, daycare, substance abuse, clothing, legal aid, etc.)

Provides structured one-to-one, strength-based support services for the purpose of addressing daily living, social and communication needs. Assists youth in developing communication skills, enhancing conflict resolution skills, and teaching pro-social strategies through targeted activities. Provides support, coaching, to train clients in age-appropriate behaviors, interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.

Provide support and supervision of volunteer therapeutic mentors. Help provide education and knowledge of services, trauma informed care, behavior management support and interventions and safety planning.

Provide alternating weekly support to crisis text line volunteers and open shifts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a caseload of 12-15 clients to help facilitate short term crisis intervention, establishing trusting relationships, supporting, coaching, and training to clients that demonstrate problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Meet weekly with each client and connect with the behavioral health team.
  • Be on-call when needed for emergency crisis intervention.
  • Assist in other program functions as required, such as special events.
  • Develop relationships with other community-based service providers.
  • Knowledge of community resources available to youth.
  • Provide education of Coffee Oasis crisis services offered to other agencies.
  • Provide required data for weekly and monthly reports.
  • Coordinate with program staff to coordinate best practice and effort for clients.

  • Demonstrate organizational skills, time management skills, and multitasking.
  • Comfortable and competent to respond to and deescalate crisis situations.
  • Communicate openly and effectively with youth, providers, community, and staff.
  • Willing to be trained in Crisis intervention, subsequent crisis trainings and operate Coffee Oasis’ 24-hour crisis line which includes alternating weeks as on/call, supporting volunteers in their response, and connecting to emergency services when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA Degree or working towards a degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human or Social Services, or directly related field.
  • Effective Communication, organization, and time management.
  • Knowledge, skills, and understanding of clinical social work and mental health counseling principles, methods, procedures, and standards.
  • Experience providing crisis and emergency services in behavioral health.

  • Ability to evaluate clients’ statements, assess their actual needs, and determine the best course of action.
  • Able to pass a background check to volunteer in the public schools.
  • Must have up to date Covid vaccinations for engaging youth in health settings and schools.
  • Professionalism to connect with schools and other public and community organizations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
