Overview:
Position h as the flexibility of remote and hybrid scheduling located within the state of Michigan.
Our full time employees receive 8 full-day and 2 half-day paid holidays, an 8 hour preference holiday, and 8 hours of paid volunteer time per year, and extremely generous Paid Time Off (PTO) accrual as well as an annual wellness reimbursement of $300. Western Michigan University Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine (WMed) is recruiting for a Credentialing Specialist. This position reports to Human Resources. The ideal candidate will have mastered Word, Excel, and all Office products. This is an administrative position that performs and/or coordinates all activities associated with credentialing and re-credentialing physicians and providers.

- Maintains physician credentialing database in Credential Stream and network drive folders.
- Prepares applications for submission to insurance companies for credentialing and re-credentialing.
- Tracks progress of insurance enrollments and follows up as needed.
- Completes primary source verifications for all new credentialing and re-credentialing files.
- Prepares profiles for approval by credentialing committee.
- Prepares credentialing letters for approval by the board of directors for new physicians and re-credentialing processes.
- Assists in managing the flow of information to the Credentials Committee, Board of Directors, Chief Medical Officer, Talent Acquisition Team, Department Chairs and Faculty as it pertains to credentialing and re-credentialing processes and procedures.
- Communicates regularly with talent acquisition team to confirm new hire faculty start dates in relation to the credentialing process.
- Ensures expiring licenses and certifications have been obtained, reviewed and filed appropriately.
- Assists in assuring compliance with accrediting bodies and regulatory agencies (TJC) as it pertains to credentialing files.
- Coordinates with all new and existing physicians and provides information on the credentialing process.
- Maintains accurate and complete information on all physicians.
- Removes departing physicians from systems, enrollments and processes.
- Availability to work occasional overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
- Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
- All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalency required. Associate's degree preferred.
- One to three years’ experience in credentialing physicians and/or insurance enrollments required.
- Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office and file management.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:
None required.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and proficiency in grammar and spelling skills.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Ability to operate automated standard office equipment such as multi-line phone system, copier, fax machine, shredder, etc.
- Ability to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing.
- Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
- Ability to interpret, comprehend, and transmit complicated and detailed instructions accurately.

WMed Health is the clinical practice of the medical school with more than 300 providers offering comprehensive primary care and specialty services in several locations throughout Kalamazoo, Portage, and Battle Creek. The Department of Pathology faculty serve as the Office of the Medical Examiner for counties throughout Michigan and northern Indiana.
The W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo serves as the primary educational facility with faculty and administrative offices, student study and social spaces, team-based learning halls, a state-of-the-art Simulation Center accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, basic science research labs, as well as toxicology and forensic pathology labs.
