Description
This is a non-exempt position, which is skilled carpentry work involving woodworking and other general maintenance work on City buildings and property.

An employee in this classification is responsible for carrying out assignments necessary to construct and maintain structural woodworking machinery and equipment. Work is subject to inspection while in progress and is checked upon completion.

Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.

Examples of Duties
Estimate materials needed for various projects and have such materials on hand. Also, cost out projects from start to finish.

Constructs and repairs tables, benches, cabinets, counters, and other wood equipment and furnishing. Also, builds structures such as small buildings and sheds.

Performs hand and bench work in a carpenter shop.

May perform or assist in other related building trades, such as plumbing, painting and electrical work.

Records time and material used on various projects.

Executes purchase orders authorized by the department director.

This position does not have final procurement authority.

Performs related work as required and as directed.

Typical Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of the practices and procedures involved in the carpentry and building trade.

Considerable knowledge of the tools, materials and supplies used in the trade and in their application.

Knowledge of the care and safe usage of power tools.

Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and of the proper use of safety devices and practices.

Knowledge of the qualities and uses of various wood.

Ability to work from sketches or blueprints.

Ability to plan, layout and perform carpentry work of average difficulty.

Ability to inspect lumber for grade and quality.

Ability to adhere to tight schedules and still maintain work quality.

Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess the required license.

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with departmental officials, other municipal employees and the general public.

Skill in the care and use of the tools, materials and equipment common to the trade.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school. Experience as a journeyman carpenter or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in this work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which, provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be
considered.

Supplemental Information
This is a designated "Response" classification in the City's Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying this position to work for declared emergencies. Attendance at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level is mandatory.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $47,500.56 - $78,375.92 per year
