Nebraska Court of Appeals Judge David K. Arterburn is currently accepting applications for a full-time term Law Clerk for the 2023/2024 term. This position involves highly responsible legal work including legal research and analysis and assisting with the drafting of published opinions. The applicant must obtain a degree from an accredited law school (the top 25% of class is preferred) prior to starting the position and is expected to become a member of the Nebraska State Bar. The office location is at the Sarpy County Courthouse, 1210 Golden Gate Drive, Papillion, Nebraska 68048.

The attorney in this position directly assists the Court of Appeals judge with case specific duties by writing judicial opinions for cases on appeal and managing the court's docket. Responsibilities may include: preparing legal memoranda, conducting legal research, analysis, formulating recommendations, and advising the judge and other members of the legal team on the facts of a case.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Law clerks must at times work varying hours and with some travel. Normal office hazards are encountered, i.e., prolonged sitting, along with the stress derived from the complexity of the legal research and the confidential nature of the work.

REQUIEMENTS: Graduation from an American Bar Association approved law school and admission to the Nebraska State Bar Association, or eligibility therefore.

Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, and practices of legal research including the use of Westlaw and Lexis/Nexis. Demonstrated ability to organize and lay out printed material, to digest and abstract studies and opinions, to communicate clearly and concisely, and experience using word processing skills.
