Job description
This position is responsible for food preparation in accordance with current federal, state, and company standards.
Essential Functions of the Job:
1. Prepares meals in accordance with planned menus, including items that are palatable and appetizing in appearance.
2. Prepares food for therapeutic diets in accordance with planned menus.
3. Assists with serving meals as necessary and on a timely basis.
4. Reviews menus prior to preparation of food.
5. Assists with food preparation for special meals, parties, etc.
6. Makes every expected effort to maintain resident satisfaction.
7. Prepares substitute foods, when authorized, to residents who refuse foods served or request appropriate alternatives.
8. Ensures that all dietary procedures and sanitary regulations are followed in accordance with established policies.
9. Cleans work station and all equipment utilized following each meal including mopping and sweeping cook work area as necessary to maintain sanitary conditions.
10. Assists with maintaining food storage areas in a clean, organized manner at all times.
11. Assists with inventorying and storing food and supplies, etc., as necessary.
12. Serves food in accordance with established portion control procedures.
13. Disposes of food and waste in accordance with established policies.
14. Ensures that they are working in a safe manner and that potential safety risks are communicated to the Culinary Director and/or Executive Director.
15. Performs other duties as assigned or needed.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in food service required.
Certifications, Licenses, and other Special Requirements:
Must obtain Food Handlers Permit (as required by state regulation).
Must have a current Tuberculosis skin test or chest x-ray. Must pass criminal background check.
Must have compassion for and desire to work with the elderly.
Essential Skills:
Must be self-motivated and have a strong customer service oriented work ethic. Pleasant, professional, and personable.
