OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Manager, Facilities and Maintenance, the primary focus of the Controls Technician is to support and continuously improve all aspects relating to the production and processing of composite utility poles. As a member of the RS team, this position will support an organizational culture that cares for other's well-being through best practices in health and safety, in addition to the company's values of respect, integrity, quality, teamwork and professional growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support all automation and controls programming on plant equipment including PLC programming, motor controls, HMI's, filament wind programs and servo controls to maximize production capabilities
  • Support daily production of composite modules by providing technical assistance to Production and Maintenance staff when required in troubleshooting and solving production and quality problems
  • Daily support to the Production and Maintenance departments for trouble shooting electrical issues as they arise
  • Support the manufacturing electronic data collection systems
  • Modify the above documentation and programs in order to remedy equipment problems or improve performance and/or machine safety
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and PPE requirements
  • Work with the maintenance team to maximize equipment uptime and reliability
  • Advise management of equipment compliance to applicable regulations and requirements
  • Assist in the research, trial/development, selection of new processes and equipment to improve the production process
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Comply with all Company Safety rules, Provincial and Federal Rules and Regulations
  • Complete scheduled preventative maintenance tasks
  • As part of the maintenance department, maintain a safe and efficient workplace
  • Effectively communicate with production department on a daily basis for equipment condition and repair status
  • On call for off hour/weekend support
  • Other duties as assigned

TRAINING / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree in Electrical Engineering or similar preferred
  • Minimum five years' experience within a manufacturing environment as an Electrical Controls Engineer or in a Design and Programming role at a machine tool builder
  • Experience with AutoCad and electrical schematic design and drawing
  • Industrial electrician trade certification
  • Electrical voltages 480/3/AC, 230/3/AC, 110/1/AC, 24DC, 12DC
  • Experience with and able to electrical trouble shooting tools
    • Digital/analog voltmeter
    • IR gun
    • MEG tools
  • Siemens PLC experience an asset
  • Servo Drives and motors experience

  • Time critical support required
  • Interaction with chemicals, heavy machinery, and moving equipment
  • Overtime will be required as necessary
