Brief Summary of Job Description
Under the direction of the Facilities Management and Planning Maintenance Manager, the Construction Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance related construction needs of the campus buildings and facilities. This position provides direct supervision of lock shop staff and assists in the supervision of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and painting staff, which includes hiring, training, evaluation and retention issues.
Job Duties
Oversee interior and exterior work involved in the construction, remodeling, repair, and general maintenance of buildings and facilities. Coordinate with outside consultants, vendors, and contractors to accomplish maintenance and construction tasks. Perform work in accordance with established policies and procedures. Plan, develop, prioritize, and manage building maintenance and construction tasks in accord with the seasonal calendar, the University calendar, and with special conditions to assure that ascertained levels of appearance, functionality, and public safety are attained on a daily basis. Operate within authorized budget and evaluate fiscal needs. Supervise maintenance and construction staff and manage related resources. Oversee and provide initial orientation and training on department operations, policies, maintenance processes, etc. . Maintain knowledge of federal, state and local laws and ordinances involving building code, fire/life safety code, and accessibility requirements.
Required Qualifications
High School Graduate or GED. Minimum of five years’ experience in building maintenance or commercial construction and two years’ supervisory experience. Valid Nebraska driver’s license (within 6 months of hire). Working knowledge of equipment and job functions of a building services operation. Good oral, writing and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Facilities Management, or related field. Experience using maintenance management software and five year’s supervisory experience preferred.
