GENERAL SUMMARY:

A Companion performs tasks that enable the client to remain in the home by supplementing the client's abilities for home management and provides services that enhance the client’s quality of life. The Companion will not function in any manner viewed as the practice of nursing according to the Florida’s Nurse Practice Act. Specifically, the homemaker will not administer medications, take physician's orders or perform procedures requiring the training, knowledge and skill of a licensed nurse. The Companion will not be involved in providing any direct personal or health care to the client unless he/she also meets the specific qualifications of a paraprofessional as outlined in the policies and procedures.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

Essential Job Duties:

1. Provides Concierge Companion services for seniors in the community. Concierge Companion services are non-skilled, non-nursing services that do not provide hands-on support.

2. Duties may include the following types of responsibilities:

a. Housekeeping

b. Tech support such as setting up, trouble shooting and teaching hardware and software

c. Shopping and errands

d. Meal preparation

e. Laundry, ironing

f. Pet care such as dog walking, litterbox care, and pet supply shopping

g. Transportation and escorts to appointments and social events

h. Companionship and entertainment

i. Home organization and seasonal decorating

j. Move-in and move-out assistance such as packing and unpacking

k. Trash removal

l. Communication and support related to sensory loss (low vision, hearing)

m. Other responsibilities as assigned by the IHS Director

3. Observes the client for changes in general physical and mental conditions. Reports any changes noted to the care coordinator or supervisor.

4. Adheres to the documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Is at least eighteen years of age.

2. Has the ability to read and follow written instructions and document services provided and is able to communicate effectively and clearly.

3. Has empathy and patience to support the needs of the senior population and understands the importance of providing excellent customer service.

4. COVID vaccine or an approved religious or medical exemption.
