Overview:
Outreach Services at Brooklyn Public Library develops innovative programs and partnerships to increase access to library resources. The Department supports responsive services to immigrant communities, older adults, people experiencing homelessness, families impacted by incarceration, and veterans.

Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) seeks a Community Resource Manager to connect partrons who may be experiencing homelessness, housing instability, food insecurity, mental illness, barriers to health care and other acute needs to social services and library resources. Reporting to the Community Health Coordinator, this person will develop and maintain partnerships that provide a bridge from the library to a robust network of community supports experts at delivering social services, benefits assistance, and health care. In addition, the Community Resource Manager will be a vital member of the teams providing support to staff in responding to patrons whose behavior may be disruptive in library spaces that are trauma-informed and culturally responsive and consider the safety and wellbeing of library staff and patrons.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage and develop Brooklyn Supports and new programming in libraries around housing, mental health, and social services
  • Supervise community services staff, including community navigators, through weekly supervision, planning, and scheduling
  • Develop direct referral pathways with local organizations for library patrons in the areas of housing and behavioral health
  • Assist the Community Health Outreach Coordinator to develop and maintain community partnerships
  • Collaborate with relevant government and community–based providers to implement appropriate service solutions
  • Coordinate with Public Safety staff, Public Service teams, and Regional Librarians as needed to help staff provide services for patrons with acute needs
  • Consult with branch staff regarding patrons who may be experiencing a mental health crisis and assist in linkage to the appropriate immediate mental health intervention to prevent a criminal police intervention
  • Coordinate and evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of de-escalation training for branch staff in collaboration with human resources and public safety departments
  • Convene and facilitate debriefing and planning meetings between public service and public safety staff to coordinate trauma-informed responses to disruptive incidents
  • Coordinate with Public Safety on an ongoing basis to ensure high-need branches receive appropriate support
  • Develop training, resources, and referral tools to support navigators and public service staff in providing referrals and working with patrons with acute needs
  • Work with Social Work schools to place BSW and MSW interns in libraries
  • Complete necessary reports and documentation
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications:
  • Masters in Social Work from an accredited institution.
  • Current NY State License of Social Work or Clinical Social Work.
  • Experience working in a non-profit or community-based space setting
  • Minimum 2 yrs of supervisory experience.
  • Creative, person-centered problem solving
  • Attention to detail without losing sight of the big picture
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong knowledge of and assessment skills for mental health disorders
  • Experience utilizing a trauma-informed approach when working with adults who have significant mental health needs
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with people experiencing homelessness, re-entry
  • An understanding of social work programming in an urban public library setting.
  • Experience working on projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Bi/Multilingual preferred
  • Ability to travel
  • Experience supervising Social Work students and SIFI certified a plus

This is a non-union, exempt position. The salary range for this position is $65,000-70,000.
