Healthy Minds Policy Initiative works to end untreated mental illness and addiction in Oklahoma through policy and practice transformation. As the state’s premier think tank for mental health issues, Healthy Minds collaborates with state and local leaders to elevate sound policy and community solutions driven by data and fueled by trust, cooperation and optimism. Through legislative and local policy, health care, education and criminal justice systems, Healthy Minds champions best practices that improve the state’s ability to prevent and treat mental illness in the least costly, least restrictive manner possible.
JOB PURPOSE
The Community Initiative Coordinator provides timely and strategic implementation support to achieve the goals of Healthy Minds’ partnership initiatives. Priority focus of the Community Initiative Coordinator will be implementation of community- and organizational-level systems improvement projects, providing logistic and strategic support to convene, plan, document, and advance key priorities related to Healthy Minds’ focus areas. The Community Initiative Coordinator uses best practices drawn from the fields of public health, implementation science, performance improvement, and community development to help various sectors, such as education, healthcare, and other key community systems, successfully install best practice approaches to mental health. The position works with Healthy Minds’ expert staff and consultants on assigned initiatives. The work ultimately contributes to Healthy Minds’ efforts to end untreated mental illness through policy and practice transformation. This position reports to the Director of Community and Systems Initiatives and is full-time, exempt.
The salary range for this position will be $55,000 - $65,000 / yr. depending on experience and education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate community-level mental health initiatives, coordinating engagement with partners, conducting assessments and other research tasks, supporting resource development goals of the initiative and evaluation activities.
- Develop positive working relationships with key community stakeholders at all levels and helps identify/mobilize others to build support or act.
- Maintain understanding of community culture, conditions, and context relevant to advancing mental health priorities.
- Help build local capacity for sustainability and engagement by educating others on best practices and key issues in mental health; practicing relationship management and facilitation techniques; guiding stakeholders in practicing effective change processes; supporting partners in developing durable systems and process improvements.
- Day-to-day tracking, reporting, and updating plans as assigned; alerts the Director of Community and Systems Initiatives of issues; prepares reports.
- Research and utilize appropriate models for community and organizational improvement.
- Ensure partners are informed and coordinated around objectives and steps to advance projects/activities; contribute to strategy conversations.
- Identify and participate in relevant community coalitions and work groups as assigned.
- Occasional facilitation of meetings, recording meeting minutes, and other record keeping.
- Support grant proposal development and grant management coordination as needed.
- Work with Community Director and Systems Analyst to develop and track key metrics of plans.
- Produce occasional written content for publication on Healthy Minds’ website.
- Other duties as assigned.
A successful candidate will have a foundational understanding or ability to quickly learn mental health best practices, the mental health and social service landscape at the state and local levels, and program management techniques. This position should also have knowledge of health and human services, with experience in behavioral health being a distinct advantage.
Required Education and Experience
- Master’s degree or higher required in behavioral health (e.g., social work, psychology), or another relevant discipline such as public health or public administration OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience or additional education involving community development, program management, administration and/or government agencies related to mental health and/or addiction.

- Ability to work regularly from an established office in the Oklahoma City metro area during traditional work hours. Healthy Minds allows for occasional remote work and off-hours work as agreed upon by employee and supervisor.
- Ability to travel at least once a week to Healthy Minds’ main office in Tulsa.
- Ability to work remotely with Internet access.
