Organization Description: For more than six decades, the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have worked together in partnership to improve the public’s health by supporting the efforts of epidemiologists working at the state and local level by promoting the effective use of epidemiologic data to guide public health practice and improve health. CSTE and its members represent two of the four basic components of public health – epidemiology and surveillance. CSTE, as a member-based organization, represents the interests of applied public health epidemiologists working in state, local, tribal, and territorial settings to improve the public’s health through effective epidemiology and surveillance. Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, the Community Engagement Specialist will serve as the administrator of CSTE’s new online member engagement platform – CSTE Connect. This position is responsible for developing and implementing a member engagement strategy to create and cultivate online communities. This includes content planning, analysis of engagement metrics and community activity, and moderating member activity. The Community Engagement Specialist collaborates with CSTE Leadership, staff, and members to identify and maintain topic communities of interest to maximize member experience.

The Community Engagement Specialist will play a significant role in the development and implementation of the online community platform, as well as launching, maintaining (with staff lead support), and moderating communities. The Community Engagement Specialist will also collaborate with CSTE IT and the vendor Higher Logic to train on how to build and customize communities based on community needs. The specialist will be responsible for interacting with our existing online communities as well as creatively and strategically raising brand awareness both on and offline to grow and sustain CSTE Connect.

To successfully build a community where our members receive value, feel connected and become engaged participants, this position will require exemplary communication skills to inspire conversation and share relevant CSTE content. The position will require leadership skills to develop, lead, and nurture our CSTE Connect champions.

This position will require collaboration with CSTE members and all CSTE Staff. The Community Engagement Specialist will provide data and recommendations to help CSTE staff and external members support their communities. The position will also work directly with the Higher Logic platform in improving useability, troubleshooting, and providing technical assistance to staff and members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support CSTE Connect and implement online communities with CSTE Staff and members. Creatively and strategically find ways to interact and build relationships within online communities of our target audience
  • Support engagement and moderate activity across all CSTE Communities
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for CSTE Connect in collaboration with the communications team and other staff
  • Collaborate with the IT team to add new communities requested by members and staff
  • Promote priority content that adds value to the community to spark ideas and create engagement
  • In collaboration with staff across departments, monitor, moderate, and engage with community members to ensure consistent activity
  • Track, analyze, and report the value of each CSTE Community
  • Attend and collaborate in CSTE staff and team meetings as required
  • Analyze community activity and critical engagement metrics
  • Improve the usability and visual display of the CSTE Connect platform by working directly with Higher Logic and the IT team
  • Provide technical assistance, training and troubleshooting for staff and members
  • Attend the CSTE Annual Conference (or other conferences) to support marketing and demonstration of communities as a member benefit
  • Collaborate with member services to support CSTE membership recruitment and retention activities using CSTE Connect.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Employment Requirements:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in multimedia management, computer information systems, web design, communications, business administration, or marketing preferred.
  • Previous digital community management experience is required (knowledge of Higher Logic preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience in writing, verbal, and presentation skills (exceptional skills required)
  • Knowledge of social media marketing is preferred
  • Sales and social media marketing experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in working with membership of professional organizations is preferred
  • Non-profit and or professional association experience is preferred
  • Digital savvy and solution-oriented
  • Empathetic listener and phenomenal interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
  • Ability to engage with our community members in our brand’s tone and voice
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal direction to achieve goals

Salary Range: $51,785 - $77,677
