Women Against Abuse (WAA), is looking for an experienced individual to join the team as our Community Educator!


WAA, a 501(c)3 nonprofit agency, is Philadelphia’s leading domestic violence advocate and service provider and among the largest domestic violence agencies in the country. The mission of WAA is to provides quality, compassionate and nonjudgmental services in a manner that fosters self-respect and independence in persons experiencing intimate partner violence and to lead the struggle to end domestic violence through advocacy and community education. With over 170 staff, WAA serves over 7,000 individuals each year within residential services (2 - 100 bed safe havens and 15 transitional housing apartments), legal services, hotline counseling, aftercare community-based services, prevention & education, and advocacy.

Position Overview & Responsibilities:
Implement trauma informed domestic violence and teen dating violence educational programs for youth in the Philadelphia area. Collaborate with staff across the Prevention Department and the agency to create and implement strategic community education and professional development workshops. Facilitate trauma informed domestic violence and teen dating violence trainings to schools, community based organizations and professionals as requested including the implementation of W.A.A.’s S.A.F.E.R. ™ Program. Assist with the development and enhancement of curricula including the creation and finalization of lesson/session plans as well as related materials such as handouts, PowerPoints and evaluations; continuously update training content with the most up-to-date research about domestic violence and trauma. Develop and cultivate partnerships with community-based and school-based administration and personnel to ensure service delivery. Drive results by ensuring timely and accurate collection of data for workshops including tracking and monitoring participant attendance, demographic information as well as pre and post survey data via the database system. Support with partner communication including scheduling workshops and trainings for school and community-based partners as needed. Represent the Agency externally on committees and in collaborations with other agencies assisting victims of domestic violence and teen dating violence as well as at networking and outreach events. Engage in structured discussions and trainings on diversity, inclusion, equity and belonging aimed at developing stronger cultural competency, both individually and collectively as an agency. Maintain professionalism, sensitivity, and confidentiality at all times. Maintain a tidy, organized work area. Attend staff, program and Agency meetings as required. Work evening and weekend hours as needed. Other duties as assigned. All responsibilities are implemented according to our mission and values and according to Agency standards.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, field of human services, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years teaching/educating, instruction, classroom management or related experience required. Experience teaching in the urban area public schools (School District of Philadelphia) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and facilitate training sessions is required.
  • Bilingualism (Spanish/English) is preferred.
  • A valid Pennsylvania driver’s license is preferred.
  • Proven record of setting high expectations and holding self and team accountable for performance goals is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population is required. Experience with the LGBTQ community preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and to follow through on assigned projects is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member is required. This includes the ability to value individual perspectives and encourage sharing of information and ideas; and the use of interpersonal interactions to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes that advance W.A.A.’s mission
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication is required. This includes the ability to clearly articulate information and ideas orally and in writing; the ability to communicate with confidence and credibility; and the ability to listen carefully and be responsive to feedback.
  • Efficient time management skills needed: ability to meet deadlines and to accomplish tasks on time with high quality
  • Problem solving and decision making skills need: applies knowledge, experience, creativity and critical thinking in solving challenges; looks beyond the obvious answers; uses sounds judgement to make well informed, ethical decisions.

  • Local travel is required
  • Must satisfactorily pass and maintain criminal (state & FBI) and child abuse clearances, and complete DV Advocate Training (JARS), required.

Full Time 40 hours/week Monday - Friday
Pay Range $19.00-$23.00 per hour + Benefits
