Within the Division of Student Affairs, the area of Residence Education oversees residential spaces that house approximately 626 residential college and 200+ high school students. The Department of Residence Life cooperates with the campus at large to create a community environment conducive to personal and professional growth unique to high school students in a residential arts conservatory educational setting.
Residential Education staff working with UNCSA’s residential high school population serve as “live-in” peer educators, administrators, resource persons, and advisors. These staff advocate for the enrichment of high school student artists’ experiences by promoting self-awareness, providing healthy social opportunities, identifying resources for success, and presenting educational programs focused on developing lifelong skills.
These staff strive to foster an environment that gives commuter and residential high school students an opportunity to be innovative, creative, and reach their fullest potential and are committed to proactively and efficiently addressing students’ residential and social needs by creating a safe and healthy living and learning environment.

Primary Description of Work
Community Coordinator will provide oversight and supervision of our residential high school students.
Work Schedule and hours
Sunday – Saturday, rotating shifts

Description of Responsibilities and Duties
The position of Community Coordinator for Residential Education (High School) is a full-time, 12 month live-in position reporting to the Assistant Director of High School Life and assists area leadership in pursuit of the mission of the department, division, and institution.
This position’s primary responsibilities include: building/maintaining the residential community, supervising student staff, adjudicating students in violation of the Student Code of Conduct, maintaining consistency with policies and procedures, overseeing the general residence hall operations, implementing social/educational programs for residents, serving in the on-call/on-duty rotation, supporting policy development, attending meetings, organizing and implementing professional staff fall training and on-going staff development.
This role assists with summer residential programs i.e. Summer Intensives during the summer months.

This operation includes two high school residence halls: Moore Hall & Sanford Hall and serving high school commuter students.
While this position works primarily in the high school area of Residential Life, it also works collaboratively across campus and within the Division of Student Affairs to support high school students’ success.
Secondary responsibilities include providing general support for the Residence Life area for college students. This includes merging on-call structure with Residential Education team in college for summer and break duty.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a four-year college or university plus 1-2 years’ experience in educational administration, teaching, residence life, counseling, social work or psychology area, or in working with young people in some other capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with excellent communication and interpersonal skills are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ideal candidates for this position must genuinely enjoy working and interacting with high school student artists and will have a working knowledge base of adolescents and their development. This position is expected to be a known presence in the high school residence halls and throughout UNCSA. Candidates must maintain a high level of flexibility in work responsibilities; daytime hours are typically utilized for staff and committee meetings, office hours, and will be the time to plan and execute high school life programs and events. Evenings and weekends are primarily focused on interacting with students via clubs and organization meetings, educational programs, and providing supervision to high school students.
