POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Communication Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting Kiewit’s communication strategy. Working closely with partners across the company’s business units, this person will help create, execute and manage messaging and communication strategies while helping leaders and employees identify and address communication gaps.

A successful candidate must be a capable writer and communicator, fast learner, adept at managing multiple responsibilities at once, and able to work collaboratively with business partners at multiple levels. Experience in employee communication and project management will be an important asset to the candidate. This position demands a person with high attention to detail and time management skills to consistently meet deadlines.

DISTRICT OVERVIEW

LOCATION

This position is based out of Kiewit's headquarters at 1550 Mike Fahey Street. This is a shared service center in a professional office setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the Kiewit brand including the logo, guidelines and templates
  • Implement our Internal Communication Plan to engage and communicate with the department’s employees
  • Create and execute effective communication plan to reach external suppliers and vendors
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of the department’s communication through bi-annual surveys
  • Create department collateral including brochures, fact sheets, flyers, handouts, presentations, electronic banners, organization charts and more
  • Write and send/post internal announcements for department employees
  • Craft and post articles to promote district/department initiatives and successes to employees
  • Assist with monthly senior leadership team meetings
  • Plan quarterly in-person meetings for the senior leadership team
  • Manage the district/department group on Yammer, the company’s internal social media site, and post to share information and recognize employees
  • Manage the district/department email distribution list
  • Create and implement communication plans for new procurement technologies
  • Support the execution of the company's global internal communication strategy to help Kiewit reach its business objectives and deliver against key priorities
  • Develop and use effective, results-focused internal communication tools as part of the overall mix of solutions; ensure the consistent flow of key messages through all internal communication vehicles
  • Collaborate with other communication and creative disciplines to manage the company’s internal brand and create an integrated, high-performing internal and external communication team

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years' communication experience, ideally with a focus on employee communication. A bachelor's degree is required (journalism, communication or related field strongly preferred)
  • Excellent writing skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite. InDesign and Photoshop experience is desirable
  • Strong collaboration and client relations skills
  • Project management skills; the ability to take a project from concept to conclusion
  • Track record of successfully meeting deadlines and project expectations
  • An ability to measure internal communication effectiveness
  • Experience with a broad range of communication channels (e.g., written, social media, portal) and able to use them strategically to influence and inform important stakeholders
  • A high level of analytical problem solving, critical thinking, planning and organizing skills
  • Strong ethics that will reflect positively on the company
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to establish credibility as a strong performer and can identify positively with people at all levels of Kiewit
  • Thrives in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • A proclivity and willingness to deliver outcomes instead of output
  • Ability to learn quickly and help the organization think in new and innovative ways
  • Good listening skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
