Job description

    • Reviews the entire medical record to apply the appropriate diagnostic and procedure coded that most accurately reflects the treatment rendered based on appropriate documentation by the provider. Using ICD-10, CPT codes to group for a DRG or APC payment and Coding Clinic for coding guidelines. When appropriate audit charges and discharge date to ensure claim meets Medicare's correct coding and billing initiative. Using an encoder product to ensure timely and accurate coding that provides vital statistical data used for decision support, utilization management, quality improvement, strategic planning and reimbursement.
  • EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
      Minimum Required:
      • Successful completion of Accredited Health Information Technology Program, Associate Degree.
      • Proficient in the use of keyboard and basic computer applications.
      • Knowledge of DRG/APC system, and ICD-10-CM/CPT coding procedures to including sequencing for appropriate reimbursement.
      • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology.
      • Must be certified, i.e. Registered Health Information Administrator, Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Coding Specialist, other health care professionals with coding experience (nurse, respiratory therapist, etc.)
      • Must be able to code an outpatient visit as well as a multiple document complex inpatient record.
      • Two years acute care coding experience.
      Preferred:
      • Bachelor Degree in Health Information Management as well as experienced in all phases of coding.
