Location
In north-central Colorado youll find the Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests. The Brainard Lake Recreation Area is just west of Boulder, CO near Ward, CO in the Front Range and about a two-hour drive from Denver and its suburbs. Imagine, a backdrop of craggy peaks, a glacially-carved valley, surrounded by mature spruce-fir forest, and serene alpine lake at your feet; thats Brainard Lake Recreation Area! This area boasts a wide variety of year-round outdoor recreation opportunities and is beloved by a wide group of enthusiasts. It provides access to the Indian Peaks Wilderness and is located adjacent to Rocky Mountain National Parks southern boundary. Highway 72 provides access to Brainard Lake Recreation Area and from the highway its a 2.5 mile drive up Brainard Lake Road to the Entrance Station. Because this area sits above 10,000 feet, it is often cooler than other campgrounds in the area.
