We are currently seeking full-time Machinists to work second shift Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Reporting to the CNC Lathe Foreman, the CNC Lathe Setup Machinist is a trained craftsman or tradesperson who not only operates machine tools but also has the knowledge of tooling and materials required to create set ups on machine tools to cut material into quality product parts within tight tolerances. This position runs the CNC Lathe machine, monitors it for problems, and takes corrective action.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Identifies and reports engineering drawing errors and suggests improvements for ease of machineability.
• Identifies machine problems and performs basic maintenance/repair with minimal assistance.
• Independently sets up any proven part in all CNC Lathes.
• Works with engineers in all Lathe projects for both prototype and production to meet production schedule.
• Reads and sets up proven programs and makes adjustments without supervision.
• Loads and sets up new tools into the machine and assigns appropriate tooling ID.
• Sets Z offsets for the running program and bar feeder top cut.
• Reliably completes thorough first piece inspection to meet quality standards and avoid producing unnecessary scrap.
• Identifies and replaces any broken or worn tools and makes tool offsets to ensure the quality of parts produced.
• Completes fully and accurately Travelers by adjusting process information (current rev.) and setup /run times.
• Inspects parts being loaded and unloaded to meet visual and physical quality standards to avoid unnecessary scrap.
• Keeps shop and work area clean and tidy: wiping down machines and surface areas, keeping workstation and shared workspace clean and organized, sweeping and moping,
• Mentors and provides guidance to operator machinists for any running job in the Lathe area.
• Ensures compliance with ITAR, EAR, and other federal requirements.
• Other duties as assigned.

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT:

• Identifies problems, provides possible solutions, seeks guidance, and participates in corrective action.
• Follows process and/or participates in process improvement and process documentation updates.

SAFETY:

• Reviews safety procedures and follows them, making suggested improvements.
• Promotes safety awareness.
• Seeks opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
• Leads by example to promote safety awareness and use of PPE appropriately.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to fully setup any proven part in all CNC Lathe machines independently.
• Knows how to read and understand complex engineering drawings for all Lathe machines.
• Strong working knowledge of program layout and tooling used in Lathe area.
• Ability to use precision measuring instruments and gauges to check part tolerances according to drawings.
• Have required precision measuring tools (Caliper, Micrometer).
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to work in noisy environments.
• Prolonged periods of standing and bending required.
• Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times.
• Must be able to bend, stretch, squat, and climb to access all parts of the machine.
• Must wear eye and ear protection.
