Overview:
We are seeking a full-time CMM Programmer - Lead Incoming Inspector located in our Olathe, KS office . In this role, you will be responsible for processing and inspecting incoming materials to ensure the conformance of parts and sub-assemblies that support our aviation and consumer business.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
  • Conduct dimensional, visual, and electrical validations on parts, assemblies, and finished product to the Garmin specification and inspection guidelines using calibrated inspection devices and tools (includes electrical components, mechanical hardware and purchased sub-assemblies)
  • Demonstrate expert competencies of all Incoming Inspection process and procedures
  • Expert in all First Article related activities including working with Engineering and Incoming Inspection Leadership to determine best in practice approach
  • Expert in interpreting GD&T standards. Mentor other associates in GD&T practices to ensure the highest quality results possible
  • Develop and train inspectors on Garmin documentation, requirements and inspection techniques as well as any new or revised procedures and methods
  • Manage priorities based on inputs from Production, Purchasing and available inspection resources and effectively communicate expectations to ensure team goals are met.
  • Review Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) to determine effect on inspection activities
  • Collaborate with Engineers to update/improve inspection plans, tools, and process
  • Apply Lean principles to continuously improve workflows to enhance customer satisfaction and maintain/improve 5S compliance
  • Applies extensive technical expertise and analysis to all assigned projects
  • Regularly demonstrates creativity and ingenuity to develop reliable solutions to complex problems
  • Demonstrate high degree of dexterity and hand-eye coordination with demonstrated ability to manipulate and handle small and delicate parts, fixtures and test equipment, in the performance of essential functions
  • Possess visual acuity to distinguish colors (Red-Green-Blue) and shades of gray, to allow differentiation of colors and textures in materials
  • Ability to lift or up to 55 pounds while using safe lifting
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Electronics, Industrial Science, Quality or related Associate's degree or Vocational Certificate in Electronics AND 8 years of related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be proficient in Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) programming
  • Must have extensive knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Must possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in electronic assembly or electronic system test/repair, to provide knowledge of component function, style, and handling precautions or mechanical part inspection using precision measurement equipment including calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, and Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) or multi-axis measurement systems or experience with electronic component inspection including passive component parameter testing experience or a combination of these
  • Must demonstrate expert proficiency using lab equipment, operations, tools, and equipment
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated high degree of dexterity and hand-eye coordination with demonstrated ability to manipulate and handle small and delicate parts, fixtures and test equipment, in the performance of essential functions
  • Possess visual acuity to distinguish colors (Red-Green-Blue) and shades of gray, to allow differentiation of colors and textures in materials
  • Proficient math and measurement skills with the ability to convert English/Metric units of measure and calculate tolerance limits
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access)
  • Ability to lift or up to 55 pounds while using safe lifting
  • Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
Desired Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience with Garmin part inspection using the Garmin part numbering system and Garmin Receiving Inspection procedures
  • Proficiency in Zeiss Calypso CMM Programming
  • Familiarity with Oracle E-Business suite and Agile PLM applications
  • Associates Degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Industrial Science, Quality or related AS degree or Vocational Certificate in Electronics
  • 5+ years of experience working in an FAA regulated manufacturing environment
