Summary

The position is responsible for assisting in the architecture, design and administration of various physical and private/public cloud-based infrastructure, support and management of multiple operating systems and associated server hardware and cloud infrastructure platforms, as well as troubleshooting and support for Storage (SAN), Backup/Recovery, hardware and OS patching and system monitoring technologies. This position ensures installation, upgrade, change control, real-time monitoring, accuracy, coordination, troubleshooting, problem resolution, capacity planning, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery (DR) architecture, design and planning for systems supported. This position is for daytime coverage and participates in an On-Call rotation. Work is performed under general direction and is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives and to ensure compliance with processes, standards, and policies of the organization. Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult and complex problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practical, and consistent with the objective of the organization. Required to lead, train and mentor less experienced professionals.

Roles and Responsibilities

· Leads the development, testing, and implementation of new computer systems.

· Analyzes end users' business needs, evaluates scope and impact on systems and/or enhances existing infrastructure through modification or replacement.

· Maintains existing server/systems by problem resolution and modifications to systems including maintaining service packs and security patches.

· Researches and develops new methods, tools, and techniques to improve system performance, increase program productivity, and reduce costs.

· Maintains technical knowledge across a variety of hardware/software disciplines, and leads others in applying these technologies

· Develops and maintains a detailed knowledge of a variety of NJ TRANSIT information systems. Produces detailed documentation of standard procedures.

· Ensures that all work is within the guidelines of NJ Transit’s Standards and procedures Manual in support of NJ Transit’s data environment. Provides technical support to IS personnel and user community

· Participates in the development and execution of project plans in areas related to infrastructure design and deployment. Recommends actions when necessary.

· Supports corporate infrastructure for assigned systems such as Office 365, Exchange, VMware, Active Directory, and File and Print Clusters.

· Resolves Help Desk calls within assigned duties. Re-directs calls as necessary to ensure proper resolution. Assures the integrity and availability for assigned systems on a 7x24 hour basis.

Education, Experience and Qualifications

Associates Degree in Computer Science or related area, and five (5) or more years of experience in system development and design. Degree may be substituted by two (2) additional years of related experience.

Knowledge and Skills

· Comprehensive knowledge of most aspects of IT design & administration for on-prem, private cloud and public cloud solutions.

· Comprehensive experience with multiple toolsets and technologies: Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Office 365, Windows Severs, Linux Servers, VMware (ESXi)/VxRack/NSX, Dell Hardware, Avamar, Solarwinds monitoring, Azure, AWS, other Cloud based computing.

· Comprehensive knowledge of fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts. Must be proficient in Microsoft PowerShell and possess excellent documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

· Must possess strong analytical skills and experience; ability to recognize, analyze and solve complex problems.
