Position Summary

This is an exciting new position that will work with a variety of clients, doctors, and insurance companies in our new Durable Medical Equipment store within the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. This position will adhere to the standards regarding attendance, documentation, continuous quality improvement, policies & procedures, and the Code of Ethics. In addition, this individual will also support the daily operations of the DME store with duties including but not limited to phone and in-person contact with patients and staff, verifying insurance, processing orders, coordinating of setup/delivery of equipment, and documentation in the data system. We are willing to train the right candidate.


Position Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and provide service for patients
  • Ensure that all necessary documentation is obtained as it relates to payer requirements, standard operating procedures and compliance programs
  • Establishes and maintains effective channels of communication and a professional relationship with patients, physicians, co-workers, contractors, and outside facilities
  • Documents any communication between referral sources, patients, and payers in the data system
  • Processes other referral orders outside the hospital, such as affiliated clinics and facilities
  • Coordinates deliveries with the delivery team
  • Utilizes EMR, reference guides, and other resources to process an order accurately
  • Maintains knowledge of any compliance with payor and regulatory standards
  • Performs and assists with patient education on products
  • Assist with inventory control such as resupplying stock, offering ideas for new products to carry, and addressing any supply issues
  • Responsible for opening and closing the store and associated activities
  • Handles cash flow and other payment methods in the billing software
Education Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
Experience Requirements

  • Proficient in using technology and software applications
  • Excellent telephone/communication skills, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • The employee will demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly in the English language both orally and in writing
  • The employee will have excellent customer service skills and the willingness to work with customers to answer questions as needed
  • The employee will possess a working knowledge of common office equipment
  • The employee will demonstrate the organizational skills necessary to manage several projects simultaneously, and the ability to work cooperatively with coworkers and the community at large
  • The employee can demonstrate the ability to type with minimal error
Desired Qualifications

  • Brightree software experience a plus
  • Knowledge of Durable Medical Equipment desirable
  • Experience in cash handling
  • Experience working with insurance benefits and physician’s offices is highly desirable
  • Experience in a retail environment
