We are hiring a Child & Adult Protective Services Worker (Social Services Worker 2) for our Children Services Department.
This is a summary of the essential duties:
Receives and investigates complaints/referrals (by telephone, in person, or email) regarding alleged child abuse or neglect; makes initial contact with children and families; initiates agency intake process; assists law enforcement personnel in investigation of alleged abusive situations; assesses risks during home and field visits; makes referrals to other community agencies when children are in need of other resources; completes documentation detailing investigations; prepares summaries upon removal of abused or neglected children; testifies in court.
Maintains confidentiality as specified by federal, state, or local rules and laws. Compiles social histories and diagnostic reports for agency and court related to allegations of child abuse or neglect. Attends court hearings as subpoenaed or assigned (provides court documents in a timely manner as ordered or requested, testifies regarding investigations, observed risk, recommendation for removal and on other matters pertinent to case; keeps Prosecutor properly informed and cooperates with them to ensure accurate and complete testimony and court documents are provided)
Prepares and completes reports, correspondence, case records, etc.; maintains files and records – both written and electronic. Provides crisis intervention services; provides casework services to children and families to maintain stability in the family unit; provides information and referral services and counsels customers receiving agency emergency/protection services.
Must be available to be on-call 24-hour services on a scheduled basis (after business hours); attends and participates in evening appointments and meetings as necessary.
Per ORC, position must have one of the following:
1. Bachelor’s degree in human services-related studies
2. Bachelor’s degree in any field and have been employed for at least two years in a human services occupation
3. Associate’s degree in human services-related studies
4. Been employed for at least five years in a human service-related occupation
If position falls under 2, 3, or 4, the person must obtain a job-related bachelor’s degree not later than five years after the date employment with the agency commences.
The starting pay for the position is $19.40 per hour with frequent wage increases.
