Job Title: CFO (Chief Financial Officer) Department: EXECUTIVE Reports to: President Job Status: Full Time-Exempt Schedule: Variable, travel 10-20%

Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be responsible for providing company-wide financial strategy, direction, and execution leadership. CFO will oversee the financial activities of the corporation, including funding, treasury, analysis, and reporting. Direct the preparation of current financial reports and summaries and create forecasts predicting future growth.

The Chief Financial Officer will oversee the administrative operations of finance and accounting.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities but are not limited to:

Develops, implements, and executes financial and administrative strategy

Establishes strategy and planning for funding all aspects of Northern Plains Railroad and affiliated companies.

Directs the preparation of all financial reporting, including, but not limited to income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, tax returns, and governmental agency and compliance reporting.

Leads the accounting team providing leadership and resources enabling them to effectively carry out their respective roles.

Responsible for financial performance planning by leading the timely and accurate preparation, submission, and administration of various budgets.

Together with department managers and supervisors, controls and directs the classification of expenditures; monitors expenditures and contracts for compliance with funding requirements and state and federal laws governing the use of funds.

Provides for short-term problem-solving and long-range facilities planning; working and communicating with appropriate department managers regarding the priorities and needs of the business; participates in related committees.

Researches and analyzes information/data; prepares or supervises the preparation of a variety of State, and Federal reports; makes presentations.

Oversee capital planning process and asset management

Ensures compliance with all applicable statues, regulations, and accounting, purchasing, payroll and fiscal reporting policies and procedures.

Reviews related legislation, compliance, code, policies, and procedures; apprises others of pending or needed changes to current practice; recommends the development of or revision to policies and procedures.

Manage and drive financial strategy and performance related to merger and acquisitions, investments and implementation.

Studies & analysis proformas, balance sheets. Research long-range economic trends and projects their impact on future growth in sales and market share.

Identifies opportunities for expansion into new business opportunities & the leveraging of technology to aid in overall efficiency of Northern Plains Railroad and affiliated companies.

Makes recommendations on how to meet targets and create investment capital

Manage relationships and liaise with accountants, lawyers, banking relationships, financial experts and regulatory bodies

Use of financial modeling to predict outcomes. Assess and predict financial risks and returns

Analyzes operations to identify areas in need of reorganization, downsizing, or elimination.

Develops, negotiates, reviews, and authorizes contracts and agreements.

Participates in Board meetings; prepares agenda materials and reports.

Performs other related duties as assigned by President.

Superior leadership and team building skills with a demonstrated track record of success.

Experience in evaluating & arranging financing solutions, equity management, treasury functions, and investment funding.

Thorough understanding of systems processes and best practices related to finance and accounting.

Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, orally and in writing, and interact with all other departments and customers in a professional manner.

Financial planning, analysis and modeling proficiency and best practice background

Ability to lead various initiatives related to operational efficiency, expense management, and change management Possess a solid understanding of financial reporting, analysis, accounting and auditing principles and practices.

Ability to establish priorities, meets multiple deadlines, and manages multiple tasks and subordinates.

Assume responsibility; deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgement when making decisions.

Technology/Computing; experience with commonly used software and communication mediums. Sage software knowledge a plus.

Merger and Acquisition experience preferred

Education and Training:

Education: A minimum bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration field required. Masters degree preferred.

10 + years related experience or equivalent combination of education and leadership/supervisory experience is required.

CPA certification preferred.

Understanding various market economics and maximizing NPR and affiliated companies involvement.

Must possess and maintain a current and valid drivers license and be insurable under NPRs commercial auto policy throughout NPR employment.

Mobility, Passport required for business travel to Canada.

Proficiency in MS 365 Suite

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $140,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
