Responsibilities:
- Supervises Engineer Supervisors, Stationary Engineers, Building Services Assistants, and Facilities Coordinator
- Makes work assignments and checks for completion of tasks and routine maintenance in the following areas:
- Mechanical, electrical, plumbing
- Vehicle maintenance
- Work Orders (special events setups, requests for moving furniture, equipment, boxes, etc.)
- Lighting assistance as needed
- Coordinates work and repairs for fountains, backflows, and other equipment
- Coordinates work with the Dept. Head and other divisions (HVAC, Electrical, Fire Systems, and Operations)
- Works with other departments on events, exhibitions, and other special projects
- Makes schedules for covering shifts, events, and rotations with the Operations Manager
- Coordinates work with contractors
- Supervises safety measures in the different workplace areas
- Keeps Dept. Head informed of all ongoing projects and future projects
- Oversees day to day operations
- Coordinates team meetings, prepares reports, creates developing strategies, and sets goals for the team
- Creates an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture
- Monitors team performance and conduct evaluations
- Operates various aerial lifts (20ft to 85ft) and fork lifts to complete tasks
- Drives cargo van, box truck, and pickup truck to and from work sites
- Responsible for interviewing candidates for Engineer and Building Services Assistant positions
- As part of the essential staff- protects museum properties during natural disasters (hurricanes, floods, ice storms, etc.)
- Performs other duties as assigned by Head of Engineering and Facilities
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of A/C, heating, steam boilers, chillers, air handling units, electrical, plumbing, and auxiliary equipment
- Must be able to read building prints
- Possess the knowledge to write and adapt procedures
- Must be able to work on-call and be available to respond to emergency calls when off duty
- Able to perform the physical aspects of the position, including lifting heavy equipment, bending and stooping
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate and interact with Museum employees, outside contractors, and the general public
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to focus on details; effectively prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
- Display willingness to make decisions; use sound and accurate judgment; support and explain the reasoning for decisions; include appropriate people in the decision-making process and make timely decisions
- Must work consistently at the office; ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent and arrive at meetings and appointments on time
- Conflict management skills, discretion, good judgment, and a helpful attitude are required
- Balances team and individual responsibilities; exhibits objectivity and openness to others' views; gives and welcomes feedback; Contributes to building a positive team spirit and supports everyone's efforts to succeed
- Discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality
- Must have a valid Texas driver license and good driving record
Education and Experience:
- REQUIRED - Licensed City of Houston engineer (1st grade)
- Minimum of ten years of experience as a stationery engineer
- Minimum of five years supervisory experience
- Electrical license preferred
- Experience working in a museum or similar setting preferred
- Experience with METASYS system a plus

- Reserve Time Off - Used for extended illnesses. Employees accrue up to 6 days per year, up to a maximum of 120 days
- Holidays - Full-time employees receive ten paid holidays per year
- Volunteer Time Off - The MFAH supports activities that enhance and serve the communities in which we live and work. Employees receive up to 40 hours of paid time off annually to give back and volunteer.
