AES Drilling Fluids is adding a Chemist position for the new, high tech Drilling Fluids Lab in west Houston. This position reports to the Support Services Manager and assists operations and management by conducting laboratory tests to assess physical properties, interpreting and analyzing data, ensuring AES products conform to specifications and developing new products and solutions for clients.

LOCATION: West Houston

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts laboratory tests to assess the properties and performance of drilling fluids and additives and supports AES operations by troubleshooting any operational issues and concerns.
  • Ensures required testing is performed in a safe, competent, and controlled manner by constantly monitoring the work area and resolving any concerns that could compromise testing.
  • Prepares new formulations of drilling fluids systems and additives to maintain product integrity.
  • Works with the Support Services Manager and other AES personnel to set up, conduct, and report data for routine and non-routine tests.
  • Properly maintains all laboratory equipment in order to rapidly respond to AES customer needs.
  • Documents laboratory test activities thoroughly and clearly, including continuous updates to the laboratory services report archive.
  • Tracks and monitors laboratory supplies and equipment inventory.
  • Collects, performs, and organizes reports on tests performed, as required and effectively communicates laboratory results to clients and AES management, as requested.
  • Ensures a clean, orderly, and safe working condition of the laboratory compliant with AES and industry standards.
  • Ensures disposal of laboratory waste according to AES procedure.
  • Support and participate in the AES Support Services continual improvement program to conform to ISO 9001:2008 requirements by complying with the quality policy and procedures and meeting quality management system objectives.
  • Handles special projects and all other duties, as assigned by the Support Services Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science with a focus on Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering is preferred.
  • At least five (5) years of relevant work experience in the oilfield services industry with extensive knowledge of drilling fluids systems / applications and laboratory procedures for testing drilling fluids is preferred.
  • Proven ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments used in drilling fluids testing.
  • Extensive experience with wet chemistry, data interpretation and analysis.
  • Knowledge of testing equipment design and modification for drilling fluids and related products.
  • Superior trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to recognize and ensure that proper intellectual property protection is in place to protect AES, including keeping the Support Services Manager apprised of such needs.
  • Ability to strictly preserve the confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary AES information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate (both verbally and in writing) with a wide variety of audiences in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
