JOBThis is a part-time Continuing Education Workforce Development (CEWD) instructor pool for available assignments during the academic year. Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on departmental needs. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include working days, evenings and/or weekends. May require travel to our main campus in Alvin and/or to various offsite locations, including local high schools in Alvin, Danbury, Manvel and Pearland and to Texas Department of Criminal Justice facilities in Richmond, Rosharon or Lake Jackson. Requires the provision of official transcripts, licenses and/or certifications within (30) days of hire. Applicants with academic credentials from non-U.S. accredited institutions are required to have their coursework evaluated in terms of U.S. "equivalency." All international credential evaluations must be conducted by one of the companies affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES®) in order to be considered for a faculty position. Applicants bear the responsibility of requesting, paying associated fees, and obtaining an original transcript evaluation for submission to the Office of Human Resources. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The Instructor will teach a variety of Patient Care Technician (PCT) courses and provide quality instruction in a safe environment to students in accordance with Alvin Community College (ACC) policies and procedures. This position requires the individual to follow the current course outlines, objectives, evaluate student competencies and maintain safety procedures within the classroom. The instructor constantly evaluates their effectiveness in the classroom by helping students obtain course learning outcomes and the impact that they have on student retention.Proficient computer and organizational skillsProficient in Microsoft Applications and OutlookProficient oral and written communication skillsMastery of course contentDemonstrated leadership skills; style that emphasizes collaboration, teamwork, and facilitationExcellent interpersonal skills in order to work effectively with a wide variety of people at various levelsCommitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learningAbility to use effective strategies to engage students in their learningKnowledgeable of credentialing agency requirementsAdheres to Alvin Community College’s policies and proceduresAttends institutional meetings as requiredOther related duties as assignedWORK ENVIRONMENTThe incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day. PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GEDCurrent licensure or certification as a Licensed or Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, EMT or similarCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)Must have current, valid Driver’s LicenseMust have a current, negative Tuberculosis (TB) test resultProficiency in subject matterOne (1) year experience in the medical fieldHave completed a course that focused on teaching adult students or have experience teaching adult students or have experience supervising PCTs or Certified Nursing Assistants) CNAsBasic computer proficiency using Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and Outlook).Ability to implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologiesAbility to make procedural decisions on sensitive, confidential issuesAbility to work effectively with diverse populationsAbility to communicate effectively, both orally and in writingKnowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and education programsAbility to teach and control the behavior of studentsKnowledge of academic and/or vocational education criteriaKnowledge of and ability to apply current education methodologies and techniquesMust be able to stand for long periods of timeKnowledge in the following content areas: Diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular ailmentsPerform diagnostic tests to assess the human heartAnatomy and physiology of the human bodyIn-depth knowledge of bodily systemsElectrocardiographyPhlebotomyBedside CareCatheterizations, saline locks, and wound care proceduresBasic emergency careReading of vital signsProcedures for direct patient care, such as bathing, grooming, fluid discharges, etc.Venipunctures (ETS, Butterfly, Syringe) and capillary punctures both finger and heel sticksAbility to teach in front of a group of peopleStrong time management skillsThe instructor will frequently perform autonomously and must be self-motivatedWill be required to proceed with independent actions with mutually established guidelines and minimal supervision from the CEWD Director of Health ProgramsMust be flexible with the ability to work days, nights, and/or weekends with the understanding that available hours will be based on the needs of the program not to exceed 19 hours per weekMust be flexible and understands a minimum number of hours is not guaranteed and that classes may be cancelled and/or rescheduled with minimal notice due to student need, student enrollment and/or program needsTimely submission of electronic time sheets, time and effort reports, as well as the reporting of safety issues to the Director of CEWD Health Programs.The timely completion and submission of various student records to the Director of CEWD Health Programs
