SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Clinic Manager and in collaboration with medical staff providers, the Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of clinic patients.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: including the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Escorts patients to exam room, documents chief complaint, record vital signs and other relevant medical history in patient electronic health record.
Prepares room, ensuring room is clean and all needed supplies are available for the provider.
Gathers past medical history, family history and enters information into the patient medical health record.
Cleans and sterilizes instruments as needed.
Operates electrocardiograph (EKG) machine and other clinical equipment as needed.
Administers medication including injectable, performs routine lab tests and administers treatment as ordered by the provider and documents such in the medical health record.
Maintains clean, safely equipped and adequately supplied examination room. Inventories clinical supplies and maintains desired inventory levels.
Assures that onsite medication is not expired and expired medication is disposed of appropriately.
Comply with all OSHA requirements and adheres to Universal Precautions at all times.
Maintains a courteous, helpful and conscientious attitude in dealing with patients, family members and co-workers, ensuring professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
Responsible for preparing patients prior to being attended to by the Provider (e.g. completing encounter sheets on patient charts, taking patient vitals, interviewing patients to ascertain reason for being in the clinic).
Responsible for performing tests, including but not limited to glucose checks, veni puncture and immunizations and procedures on patients as authorized by Medical Director or Provider.
Assists in examination and treatment of patients under direction of Provider.
Regular and prompt attendance at work.
Drawing of blood from patients either by venipuncture or capillary puncture for the purpose of collecting specimens to be analyzed.
Running Point of Care testing.
Store specimens for subsequent processing and prepares specimens for transport to other laboratories.
Follows safety guidelines at all time in accordance with the Universal Blood and Body Fluid Precautions.
Performs laboratory-related clerical duties including record keeping and entering data into computer databases.
Respond to in-person and telephone requests from providers, patients, and clinical staff.
Check standard supply inventory to assure adequate inventory levels and either places supply orders or notifies manager when orders need to be placed.
Clean working surfaces and disposes of bio hazardous waste in accordance with MFC policy.
Responsible for having knowledge of blood collection tubes.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required. Registered or Certified through the AAMA or AMT as a Medical Assistant. CPR certification required within 6 months of employment. Three to six months related experience and/or training preferred. Computer and Medical Terminology experience preferred.
