Position Summary
The CNA is responsible for providing direct care to residents.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Prepares residents for the day or night as necessary by assisting with bathing, dressing, and activities of daily living.
- Takes, reads, and records temperatures, pulses, respirations, blood pressures, and weights.
- Provides non-medical skin care which requires reading assessment sheet, obtaining skin care products, and application to the skin.
- Distributes and removes bedpans and urinals.
- Changes incontinent residents, as necessary.
- Responds to call lights by sight or sound in a timely manner and provides or obtains the necessary care.
- Communicates verbally with residents while carrying out procedures.
- Assures proper body alignment of all residents at all times in accordance with capabilities of the resident.
- Assists and supports non-ambulatory residents in range of motion exercises daily.
- Collects specimens for testing upon instruction of the charge nurse.
- Passes fresh ice water and nourishments to residents at specified times.
- Follows facility written policies for infection control.
- Assists with post-mortem care.
- Observes and reports unusual symptoms, changes, accidents, and injuries to the charge nurse in a timely manner.
- Documents electronically pertinent information on resident records according to facility policy and Indiana State Department of Health regulations.
- Cleans equipment pertaining to the nursing services department at specified times.
- Assists with the admission, transfer, and discharge of residents.
- Interacts with residents and family members in a cheerful and positive manner and shall be respectful of resident’s personal belongings.
- Maintains an effective relationship with all departments and professional staff and participates on facility committees as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must have satisfactorily completed a 105-hour nursing assistant program approved by the Indiana State Department of Health.
- Must be able, at minimum, to acquire sufficient knowledge and learn new skills through on-the-job training and instructions to satisfactorily meet job performance requirements at the end of the introductory period.
- Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; basic computer related skills; and other skills as required.
