Job Title: Certified Medication Technician (CMT) Department: Health & Wellness

Reports to: Director of Health & Wellness

Position Summary

Administer oral and topical medications to residents. This individual must perform these tasks as ordered by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed nurse, and in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations. Also, must perform routine daily tasks required in maintaining the health, comfort and well-being of the residents.

Essential Position Functions

Administers medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with any state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.

Must demonstrate knowledge of “five rights” of medication administration. Administers and records all medication given to residents’ based upon their specific chart.

May take and record vital signs of residents as assigned or as may be required by certain medications.

Records the administration of medications and/or treatments appropriately, utilizing the computer system to enter and reference resident information as needed.

Observes and reports any reactions and/or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse immediately. Administers PRN medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.

Ensure antiseptic techniques and good hand washing practices for infection control, as well as utilizing universal precautions are in place and practiced.

Reports and when appropriate, records any changes observed in condition or behavior of residents and unusual incidents.

Submit incident/accident reports to supervisor or Administrator within twenty-four (24) hours after their Occurrence.

Communicates with medical staff, nursing service and other department supervisors. Supervises care staff in absence of nurses.

Maintains, cleans and organizes the Medication Room.

Maintains a liaison with other department supervisors to adequately plan for resident activities. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

May be subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc, including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.

Maintain resident confidentiality, staff confidentiality; treat staff and residents with kindness, dignity and respect.

Comply with Resident’s Rights rules.

May be called upon to operate as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Assists with orientation and training of new employees as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Resident Rights

• Knows Resident Rights. Helps the residents exercise and/or protect their rights.
• Documents and reports resident complaints to management.
• Maintains confidentiality of resident information.

HIPAA

• Follows and adheres to Morningside Elite Management policies and procedures implementing HIPPA requirements for the privacy and security of protected health information.
• Reports all suspected violation of company’s HIPAA policies or procedures to Facility Privacy Designee.

Scheduling Requirements

Must remain in the building until proper coverage has been established and/or Executive Director or designee has released you.

Qualifications/Skills/Educational Requirements

Formal Education: Certified in the state in which you are to work as a Medication Assistant. Experience: Prior experience working in a long-term care facility is a plus.

Health: Meets all health requirements, as required by law.
