Position Summary:

This Individual Contributor position will hold responsibility for profitable achievement of the sales objectives for Bio-Techne Cell Culture related product solutions that include Specialized cell culture, Stem Cells, Matrix substrates, Trevigen Brands, GMP Proteins & Small Molecule portfolios. The CCS will develop and execute strategic plans working closely and supporting as a specialist with Bio-Techne’s Generalist consumables teams for the Cell Culture solutions portfolio to increase sales and grow market share in the territory.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Cell Culture Pipeline

The CCS is responsible for generating sales in the territory for the Cell Culture workflow solution portfolio focusing on growing in less representative research areas to Bio-Techne. Market Segments include Pharma/Biotech, CRO, Government, and Academia. The CCS will be accountable for the performance of the product group and implementation of Bio-Techne’s strategic plan and priorities.


2. New Project Management

The CCS is working on a new focus area for Bio-Techne. The specialist will own the entire sales process. This will include:

  • Work with the Sales team on lead generation
  • Hunt and prospect for their own opportunities to create a full pipeline of opportunities
  • Issuing of quotations & contracts
  • Assisting Technical Service with technical issues and enquiries
  • Provide feedback on the progress of the new workflows developed for this area of research


3. Co-ordination with Sales Team

The CCS will need to work closely with the Sales staff to ensure we provide a coordinated approach to customers and promote all the solutions Bio-Techne can provide. Once discussions on opportunities are in progress, it is important to keep relevant sales staff aware of progress while taking the lead in all communications with the customer.

4. Training of customer facing teams

The CCS is responsible for the training of Sales staff to ensure credibility statements and initial value solutions are in line with Company objectives and goals as well as ensuring staff are able to qualify leads and identify valuable opportunities.


5. Marketing Participation

The CCS will work with Product Marketing and MARCOM on presenting the existing and new customer opportunities in a way that will provide confidence and communicate the existing capabilities of Bio-Techne. They will also provide input into the Marketing programs being implemented that impact the Cell Culture portfolio and partner with Marketing on collateral needed to support the portfolio. The CCS will keep Marketing informed and provide input for all MARCOM programs to be implemented in relation to the portfolio. In addition, the CCS is expected to attend relevant trade shows and conferences for intelligence gathering and promotional purposes. In addition, the CCS is expected to identify and relay to marketing customers with high potential for collaboration with Bio-Techne, at both the scientific research and thought leadership levels.


6. Strategic direction

The CCS is responsible for providing feedback on the adoption of the Cell Culture portfolio with the goal of being competitive while providing the best value and return. They will provide proactive strategies to prepare market for what is coming & position existing products for optimal market penetration. Market data should be used to drive decisions considering the short/long term effects and impacts on the portfolio.


7. Forecasting

The CCS is responsible for providing a forecast on an ongoing basis of sales quarterly and annually for the territory covered. In addition, the CCS will include an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the product portfolio, and information and detail on how to keep driving growth will be key in the role. Forecasts of the pipeline are required monthly to allow operations to manage staffing levels. Dashboards should be created to track progress and the CCS should proactively communicate with sales leaders to influence strategy.


8. Competitor information

Market intelligence of competitive cell culture products should be collated and compared to the Bio-Techne portfolio. This should include VOC data based on competitor information. The CCS is responsible for working with Marketing to create Value Proposition comparisons, suggestions on training requirements for specialist and generalist teams providing a suite of tactics to allow us to win business by using our product capabilities

Budget responsibility

Responsible for the annual sales and expenditure budgets and the ensuring operating expenditure is within budget each financial year.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • A relevant scientific degree in chemistry and or biology or adequate experience of such
  • A minimum of 5 years customer facing experience
  • Scientific knowledge and understanding of the cell culture workflow across a wide variety of research areas.
  • Scientific knowledge and understanding of the current product portfolios provided by Bio-Techne and all of their brands. Knowledge will need to be kept up to date and relevant for product areas in the portfolio.
  • A strong reputation and individual that is of high moral character
  • Market knowledge of academia, industry, governments, and applied science markets
  • Ability to travel, attend internal meetings, visit customer locations etc.
  • Database and strong computer skill set

  • General business skills such as negotiation, strong organizational skills, and data based decision making and justification process in decision making
  • Commercial and scientific acumen and the ability to prepare project proposals and reports
  • Financial, legal, and strong technical knowledge
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management and process management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to present oral presentation to small or large audiences
  • Strong interpersonal interaction skills
  • Ability to look for new business opportunities and to be able to articulate and gain alignment for new business opportunities
  • Ability to digest scientific journals to stay current and be in the forefront of information that will assist in product and portfolio decisions
