BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:
The objective of this role will be to develop and implement MSC’s Exclusive Brand (EB) strategy within our product categories taking full ownership of product life cycle execution. The Exclusive Brand Category Manager (EBCM) will be the expert in the brand/brands established value, promise and corresponding attributes and will work closely with the Category Strategy Teams to ensure a consolidated, structured, and simplified Exclusive Brand Strategy exists within each MSC Product Category. Annual EB category performance goals will be assigned to, measured and managed by the EBCM role, such as Sales, GM, Contribution Margin, New Item Introduction, Cost Management and Productivity. The EBCM role leads the development of a robust product life cycle management approach to support Exclusive Brand growth, with a focus on a 3-year product development pipeline.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directly manages selected Exclusive Brands (EB) within an MSC Category and drives the development and execution of multi-year strategic business plans for EB product lines, targeting and realizing sustainable sales growth and profitability improvements.
- Aligns EB product line plans within the various Category Strategy owners overall strategic product portfolio plan.
- Establishes annual financial targets for category performance measurement. Reports out monthly and quarterly on forecasts and actuals to established plan. Represents that performance into Category Strategy team for EB accountability.
- Forms and maintains strategic relationships with Category Strategy Managers, Global Purchasing & EB key suppliers to maximize sales growth and profitability improvement.
- Conducts & participates in supplier partnership meetings to facilitate collaboration, problem solving, business planning, troubleshooting, contract outlines.
- Drives the identification of opportunities for Exclusive Brand expansion with business owners through competitive analysis and market research.
- Develops brand activation plans inclusive of but not limited to product positioning, product claims, price/discount strategies, assortment planning, souring requirements, packaging, patent review, ultimately driving marketing and sales campaigns for commercial launch.
- Acts as a liaison into the Marketing organization for activities supporting the enhancement of brand equity & penetration in the selling environment
- Provides EB thought leadership into the annual development of MSC’s marketing plans and supporting budget management for execution.
- Organizes, implements, and maintains the tactical day-to-day product and brand activities needed to increase sales, traffic, customer satisfaction, and brand equity.
- Serves with a project manager mindset and basic program management skills resulting in accountability measurement for program performance.
- Drives the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.
- Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Marketing or relevant equivalent work experience required.
- Master of Business Administration preferred
- Minimum of five years’ experience in Category Management, Product Management, Product Development and / or Supplier Management / Sourcing
- Required experience in: brand development, brand marketing, product marketing, supplier management negotiation, business and financial acumen, global sourcing supply chain understanding, merchandising management, customer facing exaction
- Project Management Certification is Encouraged, not required
SKILLS:
- Supplier management experience required.
Knowledge and understanding of the procurement and inventory process and associated costs including inventory, logistics, acquisition costs, purchasing, and related accounting functions are required.
Product development and sourcing experience required.
Inventory Management, Merchandising and Purchasing experience required
Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills are required.
Computer literacy and proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software is required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to 20% of the time required. International travel may be required.
Compensation starting at $79590 – $113700 / year and up dependent on candidate location and experience.
