Job description
Under general direction, performs a variety of difficult to complex confidential, administrative activities requiring a thorough knowledge of organizational procedures and precedents; uses independent judgment within the framework of established policies and objectives in decisions affecting court activities, and; schedules trials and other hearings in coordination with judicial schedules. This position requires initiative and the ability to work independently, exercising considerable independent judgment in decisions that influence court management.
Prepare and manage domestic, paternity and modification case schedule orders; monitors compliance with domestic case schedule as defined by local court rules.
Schedules all domestic trials, settlement, and pre-trial conferences, and coordinates judicial schedules in conjunction with the Administrative Assistant to meet demands of domestic caseload.
Assists Judicial Officers assigned to domestic dockets in the preparation of court orders.
Assists Judicial Officers with correspondence and domestic and paternity docket management.
Maintains county paid guardian ad litem registry and directly assigns guardians ad litem to cases when necessary.
Maintains domestic court forms and parenting seminar information; assists with updates to Superior Court Administration website.
Maintains Court Approved Mediator list; manages application process.
Processes Motions for Reconsideration and Motions for Revision.
Assists with Title 26 Guardian ad Litem Training.
Education/experience:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to any combination of the following:
Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent; AND
Possession of an AA, BA, or Paralegal Degree from accredited college or university; AND
A minimum of two (2) years of legal secretarial experience; AND
Familiarity with the legal system, and applicable laws, court rules, and policies; AND
Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and a demonstrated ability to learn and effectively utilize automated systems; AND
Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License.
Ability to work under time constraints and pressure.
Excellent organizational skills required
Working knowledge of legal procedures, courtroom operations, and legal terminology.
Legal secretarial skills, including typing, familiarity with forms, filing, and telephone work are essential.
Ability to make decisions quickly and confidently.
Good verbal and written skills.
Technical skills require comprehensive understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access and other common software packages for a PC, as well as a comprehensive legal background.
