Meeting local employer needs and improving teaching and learning are among Blue Ridge Community and Technical College’s highest priorities. This diverse faculty position supports the office of Career Advancement Education in preparing students for careers in Information Technology and Manufacturing Technologies. This position reports directly to the Dean of Career Advancement Education and collaborates with the Deans of Information Technology and Manufacturing.
The primary focus of this position is to coordinate industry in-demand training to meet the employment shortages in IT certification careers and manufacturing careers. This position designs short-term courses, promotes these courses, and recruits and supports students throughout the courses to completion. This position is responsible for all details of successful course creation, hiring instructors, course delivery, and record maintenance.
Opportunities and responsibilities include curriculum development and instructional design based on local demand, marketing, and assessing learning. Opportunities for continued technical professional development exist. This position requires technical experience, bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) or a combination of experience and education. Special consideration will be granted to applicants with industry credentials.
This position will office at the College’s Technology Center and is required to be present at the start of short-term classes at all College locations as scheduled. This position will include managing a virtual office as needed.
Playing a critical intermediary role between college, employer, and student, the Career Advancement Technologies Program Coordinator will provide direct coaching and support to multiple cohorts of students who are also full-time employees, collaborate with employer and college partners to optimize the partnership implementation, and maintain CEU and related transcript records.
- Designs, implements, and evaluates information technology and manufacturing training related career advancement courses.
- Develops and supports multiple initiatives at once.

- Is cognizant of relationship management, a creative thinker and problem-solver, and possess, a can-do attitude.
- Maintains a consistent presence at the Tech Center and Morgan County Center to support transcription of CEUs to college credit for on-site short-term and customized training.
- Maintains current knowledge of new trends and innovations in community colleges and higher education.
- Promotes excellence in teaching and innovation in curriculum development.
- Works with faculty to plan for curriculum expansion, modifications, and deletions; and set priorities for resource needs.
- Participates in supporting students enrolled in online learning.
- Recruits students into information technology and manufacturing programs.
- Promotes and markets courses.
- Maintains student records in collaboration with other team members.
- Assists in preparing grant and state reports, as needed.
- Teaches in career advancement short programs as assigned and in collaboration with other faculty.
- Recommends and participates in marketing events and campaigns to promote degrees, short-term courses, and job placement.
- Participates in industry-recognized certification training to continually upgrade technical skills.
- Travels for professional development and/or training assignments, as well as to state meetings.
- Performs any other duties to drive the College’s Vision, to fulfil the College’s Mission, and to abide by the College’s Values
- Bachelor’s degree in an information technology and / or manufacturing skills or related degree program preferred.
- Master’s degree is desired especially in education, business, or marketing.
- Candidates with technical/industrial experience will be considered.
Experience
- Program and course coordination background is needed in order to fully execute job duties.
- Continuing education or industry trainer experience is a plus.
- Experience teaching adult workforce training.
- Experience with online instruction or willingness to learn.
- At least 3 years of adult trainer experience in an educational institution or industry is preferred.
- OSHA training or willingness to be certified is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Intermediate computer skills required (Excel, PowerPoint, and willing to learn Banner, Degree Works)
- Positive written and verbal skills required
- Ability to work with a diverse team
- Ability to think critically and creatively
- Must be able to work in an extremely busy environment, different College site locations, and employer site locations
- Must be able to work a variety of day or evening hours as needed
Licensure/Certification Required
- Must have an active driver’s license.
- Special consideration will be granted to applicants with industry credentials.
