POSITION SUMMARY Reports to the Director of Cardiovascular Services, performs all ECHO Lab procedures which include Echocardiograms, cardiovascular stress test, nuclear stress test and transesophageal echocardiograms. Prepares patients, explains procedures to patients, injects and administers medications, monitors intra-cardiac responses, takes and records measurements, and calibrates and records cardiac output.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Principal Duties: 1. Performs noninvasive cardiac procedures a. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Ultrasound equipment to visualize and record quality images of the structures of the Cardiovascular System. b. Assures that appropriate consent forms are signed by patient & physicians c. Provide a summary of findings to the physician to aid in patient diagnosis and management d. Use independent judgment and systematic problem solving methods to produce high quality diagnostic information and optimize patient care. e. Acquire and analyze data obtained using ultrasound and related diagnostic technologies 2. Promote Patient well being a. Provide information about the procedure and the reason it is being done. Respond to patient’s concerns and questions. b. Respect the patient’s self-determination and the right to refuse the procedure c. Recognize the patient’s individuality and provide care in a nonjudgmental and non-discriminatory manner. Cardiovascular Technologist II 2 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES d. Promote the privacy, dignity and comfort of the patient and his/her family. e. Protect the confidentiality of acquired patient information. f. Strive to ensure patient safety. g. Follows UMCAP infection control policies 3. Promote the highest level of Competent Practice a. Obtain the appropriate education and skills to ensure competence. b. Practice according to published and recognized standards. c. Work to achieve and maintain appropriate credentials d. Acknowledge personal limits and not practice beyond their capacity and skills e. Perform only those procedures that are medically indicated, restricting practice to validated and appropriate tests. f. Ensure the completeness of examinations and the timely communication of important information g. Strive for excellence and continued competency through continuing education h. Perform ongoing quality assurance 4. Monitors acquisition patient data. a. Supervises calibration and collection of patient data via the correct physician b. Checks accuracy of diagnostic information c. Submits patient billings within 24 hours of procedure d. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient’s served. Takes into consideration the patient’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs
