DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
- Cardiology Tech provides various technical activities and non-professional services for the patient while working in collaboration with nurses, RTs, physicians and other interdisciplinary team members. Patient care is provided in a manner consistent with the mission of the organization. The Cardiology tech is responsible for assisting the nursing staff with specialized procedures, clerical duties and other care of the patient assigned to him/her by the Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Patient Centered Care
- Consistently participates in the multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
- Competently performs preoperative and post-operative preparation of patients for all cath lab procedures.
- Demonstrates competency in taking vital signs and peripheral pulse assessment.
- Transports patients using proper body mechanics while providing comfort and safety to patients.
- Consistently utilizes basic decision making skills to complete routine task.
- Participates in best practices in a consistent and positive manner: Huddles, communication of patient/family issues, Service Excellence principles, and clerical messages.
- Demonstrates proper transporting and stocking of sterile instruments and supplies.
- Teamwork and Collaboration
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team in providing patient care during preoperative, perioperative and post-operative periods as directed by nurse.
- Maintains holding area and assist with patient flow as directed by nurse.
- Quality Improvement
- Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in implementation of Unit PI plan.
- Makes suggestions/recommendations for improved operations.
- Assist with stocking of supplies.
- Informatics
- Documents accurately according to department policy when entering charges.
- Possesses competency in use of technology and computers.
- Demonstrates competency in entering patient demographics.

- Knows, understands, and adheres to hospital/department policies and procedures.
- Has knowledge of and utilizes unit specific equipment appropriately.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of high school or GED equivalent

Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting.
- The work environment may be physically confining.
- Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities.
- Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds, heart sounds, and bowel sounds.
- Ability to do shift work as required.
