KBR is seeking a Business Unit (BU) Controller for its Government Services United States (GSUS) National Security Technologies Group Segment. The position will provide financial management oversight and support, and lead key finance initiatives to drive value within the BU. The position will report to the BU CFOs with dotted line to the Segment Controller as part of the KBR Accounting Team. Knowledge of US GAAP and experience with US government accounting are essential.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Ensure BU accounting records are fully in compliance with the US GAAP and KBR’s accounting policies and practices on a monthly basis
  • Own and develop precise awareness of all elements on BU balance sheet and incorporate into proper period recognition, impairment assessments, account reconciliations, and support and manage applicable P&L and Cash Flow forecasts, risks and opportunities
  • Manage monthly close processes and coordinate efforts across BU Forecasting, Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Project Planning & Control (PP&C) and Accounting teams
  • Closely coordinate with BU FP&A and PP&C teams in reviewing management reports and preparing and reviewing commentary; review plans, budgets and forecasts for alignment with the accounting positions; improve provision of insightful information and commercial support to help drive decision making
  • Identify, evaluate, recommend, and document technical accounting and judgmental accounting matters. Engage BU CFO and Segment Controller for prompt resolution and alignment
  • In coordination with the Segment SOX team, ensure successful development, enhancement, and maintenance of internal controls at the BU level. This includes performing/reviewing BU SOX self-assessment testing.
  • Coordinate with Segment Controller and the corporate accounting team to design and maintain accounting processes and tools to enable effective and efficient accounting outcomes; with focus on maximization of standard processes and tools used across KBR
  • Ensure the statutory financial statements of Legal Entities, if any, assigned to the BU are maintained in accordance with both US GAAP and local statutory reporting standards
  • Review and approve new setup forms for all projects and ensure revenue recognition assessment is accurately and timely completed for new projects
  • Ensure compliance with the backlog and remaining performance obligation policy; ensure backlog review and reporting process is completely and accurately adhered to; where significant judgements are made to arrive at the reported backlog, ensure such judgements are elevated for proper discourse and accurately/timely documented
  • Analyze, review and approve monthly and quarterly accrual entries, especially as they relate to significant subcontractor accruals
  • Track and manage reserves and claims. Ensure proper documentation for reserves and claims. Make sure unique items are discussed with management and aligned with the Segment Controller.
  • In coordination with the Segment Controller and Government Compliance, ensure continued compliance with the applicable Federal Acquisition Regulations, Government Cost Accounting Standards, and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement, Cost Accounting Standards or other regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate with Government Compliance and Segment Controller teams to track indirect rates, and help design and implement system and process, as appropriate
  • Manage accounting for joint ventures
  • As BU Lease accounting coordinator, perform reviews of new lease arrangements, and review monthly reconciliations between the GL and lease accounting application
  • Partner with BU Proposal Team to provide technical accounting and cashflow modeling support
  • Identify and coordinate with Treasury Department on foreign currency issues or exposure
  • Oversight of petty cash accounts and employee receivables, where applicable
  • Coordinate with Tax Department to ensure proper application of foreign and domestic tax requirements; submit quarterly / annual BU Branch taxes as required
  • Coordinate with internal and external accounting partners for audit support (Internal Audit and Government Compliance and external auditor)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5 years accounting experience in a senior accounting role
  • Significant experience in the US Government Contracting
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
  • Accounting designation (CPA, CA or equivalent) preferred
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Impeccable analytical, problem solving, project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to design and maintain effective, simple, repeatable, and dependable business processes
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Ability to work closely with/partner with Project and Business Unit leadership team to promote strong business performance and achievement of business goals

*Ideal candidate will be located in the Maryland, Virginia, DC area or Houston, TX. Remote option with 25% travel requirement may be considered*
