Sylvan Learning is looking for a Business and Accounting Analyst to join our Analytics and Accounting teams. This position is a combination of responsibilities which is approximately 75% Analytics and 25% Accounting. The ideal candidate will have some experience in data analysis and a willingness to learn accounting responsibilities (as detailed below). The Analytics aspect of this position will play a valuable role in deriving insights from data and convincingly presenting them to grow our business. The role will require analytics to provide Sylvan Learning franchisees, managers, and executives with insights into the Sylvan business and franchise system. This role will involve various analytics projects emphasizing operations, finance, digital marketing analytics, business intelligence, and customer analysis. The Accounting aspect of this role will support in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance and Accounting Department, including but not limited to journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close processes. The Analyst will interact with multiple managers and assist with maintaining the accounting records from multiple Sylvan Learning Center locations.
Business Analyst – Key Responsibilities:
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data using SQL, Excel, Tableau, and other tools.
- Develop and publish automated reports and dashboards using Excel or Tableau.
- Transform data from various sources using Alteryx.
- Access data from various sources and integrate data into forecasting and trending models.
- Collaborate with multiple internal stakeholders to develop solutions to automate data processes and improve the gathering of insights.
- Design and implement processes to ensure the integrity and accuracy of data used for analysis.
- Analyze operational, financial, marketing, and customer data to formulate and present actionable recommendations to help drive business performance.
- Provide trend analysis and related reporting of key business metrics.
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis to support a variety of business decisions.
- Complete other duties, as assigned, on time.
Accounting Analyst – Key Responsibilities:
- Knowledgeable in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Prepare Balance Sheet Reconciliations
- Assist with month-end close by posting journal entries.
- Assist with preparing audit schedules.
- Assist with Bank reconciliations.
- Conduct research on multiple transactions.
- Perform ad hoc accounting, financial, or administrative tasks on time.
- Complete other duties as assigned on time.
This position will primarily be conducted remotely but may be asked to occasionally travel to Corporate Headquarters located in Hunt Valley, MD for meetings or Company events.
